The story of how the harder I worked at home, the less time I had for my children

The first time I touched video editing software was
a free app on my smartphone.
Wanting to preserve my children's growth,
I started by making slideshows of still images.
From there,
cutting and connecting videos,
adding subtitles,
adding background music,
before I knew it,
“I want to make it even better”
with that feeling, the time I spent editing increased.
A few years later, YouTube and short-form videos started to become popular,
and I began managing my own channel,
becoming involved in video editing for many years.
At this point,
I switched from smartphone editing to PC editing.
I looked up things I didn't understand myself,
and built up my skills little by little through self-study.
And then, I realized something💡
I realized that“shooting videos”was not what I liked as much as
“the editing itself.”

After that, thinking “I want to make video editing my job,”
I started applying for projects.
Then, I saw a condition that was always there.
*Required condition
Must be able to use Premiere Pro
“If I can't use Premiere Pro,
I can't get work in the first place...”
Thinking that,
I taught myself Premiere Pro, which I had never touched before.
And although I was able to apply for projects,
the reality that awaited me next was this:
・Many one-off projects
・Low unit prices
・Only my time was being consumed

My top priority is my children.
I want to cherish the time I spend with them✨
For that reason, I chose video editing
as a job I could do from home.
But in reality, to increase my income,
I had to take on many low-paying projects.
As a result, my work hours only increased,
and the “time with my children,” which I should have been protecting most,
was being whittled away.
I had fallen into such a contradictory state.
That was when I started to feel
that it was the triggerfor me to start changing“how I approach video editing.”
Until then,
・If I increase my skills, my work will increase
・If I work hard, my income will increase
I believed that without a doubt.
But the reality was
・Work hours increase
・Income doesn't grow as much as I thought
・Time with family decreases
I think the direction of my efforts
was slightly off.

From here, I started to decide
“how I want to work” first, rather than “how to edit.”
Then,
the situation started to change little by little.
In the rest of this,
・Why my time decreased the harder I worked
・How I created a “way of working that lasts without strain” from home
・The reason I was able to increase my income while protecting time with my children
I will talk about these things based on my actual experience✍️
This small realization
became the first step in changing my way of working significantly🌱
