Reflections on my mother-in-law's first anniversary—feeling as if we are still walking together
Yesterday was the first anniversary of my mother-in-law's passing.
She departed on a day when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

She was always kind, cheerful, a little mischievous, and full of humor.
She treated both me and the children so well and loved us dearly.
We love our mother-in-law so much.
If there is one regret,
it is that we could not have her meet her grandchildren in person.
However, every time we showed her photos and videos,
she would be so genuinely happy to see them growing up.
And today.
The sweet, fragrant scent of canelés is spreading through the kitchen.
My husband is baking a lot of canelés
to give to his colleagues.

Whenever something comes up, my husband immediately bakes various sweets and shares them with everyone.
At his previous workplace, too,
when a tough project would settle down,
he would often make canelés or financiers to thank everyone and bring them in.
He always makes cakes for birthdays or when relatives gather for celebrations for the grandchildren, so everyone looks forward to it.
He has even baked treats as gifts when my friends come over to visit.
Standing in front of the oven,
the way he carefully bakes them one by one.
Watching him,
I am suddenly reminded of my mother-in-law's kindness.
And, as far as we know,
ever since the generation of my husband's great-grandmother,
it seems that reaching out to help those in need and naturally doing things that make others happy has been passed down through this family.
I feel that such sentiments are still naturally being passed down within us today.
Before she passed away, my mother-in-law gave me a brand-new pair of walking shoes.
When I wear them to visit my son's house,
I feel as if I am visiting with my mother-in-law, and I feel as if she is sharing in the joy of watching her grandchildren grow.
Mother-in-law.
Thanks to you, your great-grandchildren are growing up healthy.
Laughing, crying,
showing us various expressions every day,
they are growing up steadily.
And today, too,
kindness is being passed down just like this.
Please continue to watch over us
from now on as well.
I will continue to cherish
each day as it comes.
