The commemorative 50th #WritingRadio

To everyone who has listened this far, thank you so much๐ŸŽ

Somehow... the 50 posts went by in a flash...
I've been on and off with note for about five years now, but this might be a first-time feeling.

On holidays, I sometimes start writing during the day, but usually, I end up putting it together quickly at the end of the day, during the time I'm waiting for other family members to finish their baths, or in the spare time before I go to pick up my husband.

The fact that my time is limited might be the reason I've been able to keep it up.

To those who have taken an interest and stopped to listen to this radio where I ramble about my feelings and thoughts of the day,I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude๐ŸŽ

And I hope to continue this apple-heavy๐ŸŽ style happily from here on out.

I look forward to your continued support.

Today, it's a story about "Children's studies these days are difficult." topic.

My middle school son, who attends school on his own terms, brought home some test questions he had done previously,

so I tried relearning the material while reading through the questions with my son, who finds it difficult to "sit at a desk and study" on his own anymore.

The subject was science.

And then!!

The questions are basically multiple-choice, with the occasional written response.

First of all, there is a lot of text in the questions.
The question text takes up an entire page.

With explanations and charts included, you have to connect the text within a single major question, properly grasp the context, read what the question is actually asking, and then derive the correct answer.

There are almost none of the Q&A style questions that we, the Showa generation, used to solve, and what we used to solve as 'applied problems' are now presented as standard major questions, with about five of them on the test.

There was no answer sheet, so I had to make sure I got the answers right, and I ended up re-solving them with my smartphone in hand, doing a lot of 'looking things up even though it's a test'while I worked through them๐Ÿ˜‚

Also, I felt that compared to when we were students, there are more questions that require comprehensive knowledge and intuition.increased.

That might be due to my son's or my own traits, but for example, when asked about geological strata or rock types in an earth science question,

you first need to have a solid grasp of knowledge regarding items like 'age,' 'rock type,' 'grain size,' 'influence of water flow,' and 'distance from the sea,' and then you have to analyze what the phenomenon described in the question means when applied to each of those items,

which really uses parts of the brain I don't usually use.

(That part is probably the frontal lobe๐Ÿ˜‚)

...And it's exhausting๐Ÿ˜ฉ

It really made me deeply realize that today's students, who are doing (or being made to do) this every day, have it tough...

...No, wait, perhaps

If I had to 'integrate knowledge' on a test, rather than just memorizing items by rote as I usually did,

I feel like it would cause massive brain fatigue...๐Ÿ˜ฉ is what this Showa-era student thought.

(I'm glad I'm not a student these days...๐Ÿ˜‚)

However, it wasn't just a time of 'I can't do it!', 'It's too hard!', or 'I hate this!'

There were many moments where I realized that my son's experience of naturally becoming familiar with things, or watching trivia videos about mysterious worlds on his own, was surprisingly useful.

When we solved questions about types of rocks, animals, and plants while comparing them to actual photos,'Oh! That's the one I picked up at the beach!' or 'Oh! That's the one I often see at the rocky shore!' were some of the discoveries we made.

'Things experienced through the five senses are not a waste' was a realization I came to.

Also, I purely felt'the joy of learning = the joy of knowing things you didn't know and thinking about them' for the first time in a while, and I would like to share that joy with my son again.

๐ŸŽThe top image 'Today's Apple๐ŸŽ' is

the first image I created using Gemini๐ŸŽ The base prompt is belowโ†“

'A few apples in a basket, sketched and colored with watercolors. The background is a bright garden, and you can faintly see canola flowers and cherry blossoms blooming in the distance.'

After making a few adjustments to this, the spring scenery + ๐ŸŽ at the top was completed.
It was fun, so I think I'll try making it again๐ŸŽ

๐ŸŽThank you for reading today as well๐ŸŽ

Approaching my late 40s, I started this 'writing radio' because I wanted to look back on my past, expand my future, and cheer someone up with my own story.

This radio is

๐ŸŽWhat I want to write
๐ŸŽWhen I want to write
๐ŸŽIn the style I want to write
๐ŸŽIn the amount I want to write

I intend to deliver it.

I would be happy if you could enjoy it casually.
