Pocket Memo #47: Grated Daikon of Happiness
■ Today's Pocket Memo
Daikon grater, affection, rubbing the wrong way
***
Scrape, scrape, scrape, scrape.
"Affection level, 37 poooooints."
The electronic voice rings out.
Honestly.
Mind your own business!
***
Dinner preparation time for a working mom is a battlefield.
I couldn't leave on time today either, one hour of overtime.
Even so, I spent the afternoon with a "don't talk to me" aura in full effect, creating documents at incredible speed.
"I'm home!"
I barely finish my greeting before heading to the living room.
I'll just leave my bag in the corner for now.
While putting on my apron, I open the refrigerator door.
As I thought, I really want to eat saury today.
Defrosting is perfect.
Even if it's frozen, saury needs grated daikon, right?
***
The kids' stomachs won't wait.
"Here, eat this and wait."
...If I were to do that, they'd just keep eating snacks until they were satisfied.
Naturally, they wouldn't eat their meal.
I want to avoid that.
"Almost done, it'll be ready in a second!
All that's left is to grate the daikon."
I grate the daikon with intense energy.
***
"Affection level, 37 poooooints."
Daikon graters these days.
When you stop grating, it gives you a score and judges your affection.
This seems to be popular, and I can't find a normal daikon grater that just grates.
***
The loud electronic voice announces the score.
Snap.
Something inside me broke.
I can't take it anymore.
I'm going to break this daikon grater!
I grab the daikon grater and raise my hand.
At that moment.
"Mom, I'm hungry," my son says as he bumps into me lightly from behind.
***
Reason activated.
I slowly lower my raised right hand.
A deep breath.
I slowly move the muscles in my face.
Creak, creak.
I turn around like a mechanical doll.
"Sorry, just a little bit more."
I smile and answer.
"Then, I'll help you."
He takes the remaining daikon and starts grating it.
While humming a tune.
Slowly, slowly.
***
"Affection level, 97 poooooints."
The electronic sound rang out.
On the next non-burnable trash day.
I will definitely get rid of this daikon grater.
I swore it firmly.
<Fin.>
Here is one with a slightly different taste.
