Serin vs Tsubaki | Comparing Korean Manhwa-style and Japanese Anime-style expressions with the same prompt

PixAI has released a new original model called "Serin". In the first article, I shared my initial review, where I was captivated by its K-drama-like narrative quality, transparency, and ability to express light.
As a follow-up, I decided to compare it with another representative PixAI model, "Tsubaki". While both are popular models available on the same platform, they have clear differences in their intended direction and areas of expertise.
"What differences will Serin and Tsubaki show if I input the same Japanese prompt?"
To answer this simple question, I actually generated images and compared them.😊
*This article is a sponsored post requested by PixAI.
🟩 Comparison Prompt
For the prompt, I chose one that is simple yet allows for a wide range of expression, just like last time.
"A girl in a white dress smiling at the seaside in summer"
I didn't use any English or tags, just natural Japanese sentences. This is a scene where the unique personalities of both models clearly emerge while leveraging "natural language input," a major strength of PixAI's proprietary models.
🟨 Serin's Results and Features

First, let's look at the results generated by Serin.
What caught my eye first was, as expected, the softness of the light. Sunlight and reflections from the sea gently envelop the subject, creating an overall atmosphere of transparency. The smile was also depicted with a gentle feel.✨
Even though I only input "smiling," it has the expressive power to convey emotion through not just the smile, but the pose as well. I realized once again that this dramatic and emotional expression is Serin's greatest feature.
🟥 Tsubaki's Results and Features

Next, I tried the same prompt with Tsubaki.
This one stands out for its vivid colors and sharp outlines. The waves are drawn clearly, and the lines of the hair and clothes are emphasized in an anime style. Perhaps because of the sharp depiction, it gives a bright and energetic impression.😊
Tsubaki also shows quality that is in no way inferior in terms of expressive power. It can be said that this model has strengths in "classic Japanese anime-style expression" that emphasizes vibrancy and dynamism.
🟦 Comparing the differences between the two
Which one you choose depends on the direction of the work you want to express.
Serin if you value emotion,Tsubaki if you are looking for impactful expression.
I felt that the strength of using PixAI is being able to flexibly choose according to the scene you are looking for.
Next, I tried expressing a festival scene using each model. Will there be a difference even in a lively scene where various light sources illuminate the surroundings?
On a festival night, a girl in a yukata is staring at the lights of a food stall.

Comparing the results generated with the same Japanese prompt, the differences between the two models are indeed apparent. While the impression regarding light is only a slight difference, the difference in character expression is clear.
-
Serin
The light is soft, and the overall impression is harmonious
Manga-like touch with a sense of fusion between characters and scenery
Finished with the atmosphere of a Korean Webtoon
-
Tsubaki
Vivid colors and clear light, glittering
Characters are drawn clearly and have a strong presence
Japanese anime style with outstanding colorfulness
To sum it up in one word,Serin = Korean manga-style transparency, Tsubaki = Japanese anime-style vividness. It was a very interesting experience to see how much the expression changes depending on the model, even with the same natural language prompt, and it was exciting to see the range of expression expand✨
🟪 Differences between Korean-style emphasis and anime-style
Next, I will write in more detail about a more dramatic scene and generate it.
How accurately will it interpret a long natural language prompt and express it?
Early summer twilight, on the banks of the Han River, a boy and a girl in school uniforms stop and face each other. The girl is wearing a white dress with a thin cardigan, and she is smiling sadly while her long black hair sways in the wind. The boy is wearing a thin blue shirt and slacks, and he is looking at the girl with a serious gaze. The light of the setting sun reflects on the river surface, and unspoken feelings drift between the two.

Comparing the scenes like this, I felt once again that Serin pushes "Korean-style storytelling" to the forefront. It naturally reproduces the "air" and "emotional depiction" that Korean dramas and Webtoons excel atso the impression of the work changes completely even for the same scene.
On the other hand, Tsubaki is perfect for depicting a "pop and visually gorgeous world."If you are looking for anime-like direction, you will want to choose Tsubaki without hesitation.
Serin and Tsubaki are rivals, but at the same time, they complement each other. By choosing between them according to the atmosphere and purpose of the scene you want to create, the range of expression will expand significantly!
🟧 Prompts I want to dig deeper into
I have also thought of several other dramatic scenes where the differences between Serin and Tsubaki would be clear. When they express things so well, it becomes fun for me to write, and I get into the flow of writing😊
Starry Sky and Youth
On a summer night, a girl and a boy in school uniforms stand side by side on a city rooftop, looking up at the stars. The girl is wearing a sailor uniform with her hair tucked behind her ears, and the boy has taken off his blazer and draped it over his shoulders. The sky is filled with countless stars and shooting stars, and the distance between the two has closed just a little.

The starry sky and night view came out really well!
The part about 'the boy taking off his blazer and draping it over his shoulders' needed a bit more work. However, Serin's version, while not perfect, managed a decent representation. The overall atmosphere is great for both models.
Winter Confession Scene
In a park on a snowy night, a girl wearing a red scarf and a young man in a black coat are standing still. The light from a streetlamp illuminates them, and as their white breath dissolves into the night sky, the girl holds out a small gift box.

Both models did a great job with this composition too!
Tsubaki feels like the epitome of youth, so bittersweet~💕 Serin tends to make the male character look more mature, giving it the vibe of a slightly more grown-up romance. It's quite dramatic~.
Both are of a quality that could be used as illustrations for a novel. It's interesting how the impression changes completely even with the same composition. By accumulating these kinds of comparisons, we should be able to delve even more concretely into the characteristics of both.
🌸 Summary: The Charm of Serin and Tsubaki
This time, I prepared several scenes to compare the differences between Serin and Tsubaki. And I was reminded once again of the individuality of both models.
Serin excels at expressing the transparency of Korean Manhwa style.
Tsubaki is perfect for drawing Japanese anime-like vibrancy.
It's not a matter of which is better; the model you should choose changes depending on the worldview you want to depict. This is the very charm of PixAI's proprietary models Serin and Tsubaki, and I think it will be a great weapon for creators.
🔷 Next Preview

Next time, I will delve deeper into Serin's Korean-style characteristics and experiment with how far I can depict dramatic emotional scenes using only natural language.
Moments of youth where school-uniformed boys and girls gaze at each other, or romantic scenes that convey the distance between hearts—just how well can Serin reproduce scenes that look like a cut from a Korean drama or Webtoon?
I hope you will read the next installment as well. Stay tuned!
