[March 17] Spring layout changes. Plants need a "personal space" too

Good evening.
Spring is the growing season for plants. Some of you may have found yourselves bringing home new plants from the shop, and your windowsills might be getting a little more crowded.

Today, I'd like to start with the conclusion regarding the placement of plants in your room.

That is, "do not pack your plants tightly together; give them a little space." Just like humans, plants need a comfortable "personal space" too.

Why is it better not to pack them together?
The sight of many plants gathered in one place is very charming, like a jungle. However, if you place them so close that their leaves overlap, several troublesome things can happen.

・Poor ventilation
If there is no gap between plants, the air becomes stagnant. As I mentioned before, poor ventilation can cause pests to appear and make the soil difficult to dry out.

・Competition for light
Small plants under large leaves end up in the shade and cannot get enough light. They tend to stretch their stems unnaturally (etiolation) in a desperate attempt to get "more light," resulting in an unsightly shape.

・Diseases and pests spread easily
If one plant gets pests or becomes diseased, it will spread to the neighboring plant in an instant if their leaves are touching.

A guide for a comfortable distance
When placing plants together, it is ideal to keep a distance where "the leaves are just barely not touching each other."

By creating a space where a gentle breeze can pass through, each plant can spread its leaves freely and grow healthily.

The time spent thinking about your room layout is fun, much like redecorating your interior.

Please find a place where each of your plants can take a deep breath most comfortably.

For those of you who are a bit lazy and think, "I don't have any more good spots to put them!", I recommend "changing the height." Just by using a flower stand or a stool to create levels, you can prevent leaves from overlapping even in a small space, and both light and air will reach everything.
