Chapter 5: The Journey of Distributing Retort Motsu Curry 2 [A Decree from the President]
I had suspended the wholesale of retort motsu curry after May 2023.
The reason was that the sales pace had gradually slowed compared to the early days, and I feared I would be left with inventory since I wasn't confident I could sell out 500 units in two years.
Having poured my passion into retort motsu curry for about three years, I fell into a state of feeling a void. I felt no motivation to do anything, and days of regretting that I couldn't continue followed.
RitsuanWhen I was interviewed at my own company, called Ritsuan, I was called in because I was doing a side job, but I ended up talking about it in the past tense.
In May 2025, one year after suspending sales, I had the opportunity to talk with the president during a personal company interview.
And after the interview ended, I was asked about my side job.
"Ota-san, by the way, what happened to the curry?"
"I did sell out 1,500 units, but the sales pace slowed down, so it is currently suspended."
"Then our company will buy it! We can distribute it as New Year's gifts for employees, or place it in the stores we manage!"
"While we're at it, let's make a box package! We have a designer in-house, so you should just ask them!"
Huh? A box package? A designer?
Just like that, it was decided that they would buy the retort motsu curry with a box package.
It was an event that took about a minute during the final conversation of the interview.
"Thank you very much!"
Miraculously, a miracle happened!
I had personally distributed the retort motsu curry to the president and talked about it, so he knew about it, but I never dreamed that Ritsuan would buy it.
There was a plan to supply the retort motsu curry to the cafeteria at the Ritsuan Tokyo office, and although it didn't materialize, it must have reached the president's ears.
Also, I knew the president personally viewed my Facebook. Sometimes he would even 'like' my posts.
You really never know what will happen.
Thus, the revival of the retort motsu curry was decided for the first time in a year.
It became the opening of a new prologue.
