Paper books are fine too! An easy way to look up kanji

I have found a solution for looking up kanji I cannot read in paper novels.

To be honest, I have been skipping over the parts with kanji I didn't understand until now...

Once you know the solution, you can understand the meaning of the kanji you couldn't read. I have come to understand the beauty of the expressions, and I have been able to reaffirm that
the Japanese language is truly beautiful.

Above all, I am excited that my vocabulary will increase and my range of expression will expand!

For those of you who, like me, have been skipping over kanji you don't understand, please let me share this solution with you.

This solution uses the handwriting input feature on an iPhone.

Now, I will explain it using images.

How to set it up

1. Open Settings and tap General

2. Tap Keyboard

3. Tap Add New Keyboard

4. Select Japanese

5. Check Handwriting

The setup is now complete!

How to look up kanji

Now, let's actually try looking up a kanji.

↓ I cannot read this kanji (the yellow part) (how embarrassing).

1. Open Google on your iPhone and tap Search

2. When the keyboard screen appears, tap the globe icon and select
Handwriting

3. The screen has changed to the handwriting input screen

4. When I hand-wrote the kanji I didn't know into the blank space, the word I wanted to look up appeared!

4. When I tapped that kanji, the reading and meaning of 咆哮howling were displayed.

5. Here is the sentence where this kanji was used:

“I’ve never read anything like this.”
I told Mr. Matayoshi my impressions when we were drinking together.
Then, Mr. Matayoshi suddenly left the shop, looked up at the moon, and
howledbefore turning into a tiger and disappearing between the buildings.

Pistol Jam | Quoted from a book review of 'The Moon and Prose'

Hmm... What a cool sentence!

From now on, I think I can enjoy reading more without skipping over kanji I don't know.

If you find a kanji you can't read, please try looking it up using handwriting input.

The End

Thank you very much for reading until the end.
Likes, follows, and comments are very welcome.

<What I write on note>
⚫️ I write book reviews. They are collected in a magazine, so please take a look if you'd like.

⚫️ I also have reviews of books I've listened to on Amazon Audible.

I look forward to your continued support.
