The Magic White Crayon

The Magic White Crayon

Written by Awa Sango (AMAHORO Library)

✨The Beginning of a Dream

Kaorin, a 10-year-old girl, had a strange dream one night.
In the dream, an old woman with a cane appeared and gave her a white crayon.

"I will give you a magic crayon. Whatever you draw with this crayon will come true."

Kaorin was surprised but took the crayon.

"Thank you, Grandma! If everything I draw comes true, it’s like I’m a real wizard. …Oh! Are you a wizard?"

The old woman smiled softly.
Kaorin looked closely at the crayon and said:

"But Grandma, I can't draw anything with a white crayon! I need many colors to make a real picture."

🌈How to Get Colors

The old woman smiled kindly.

"You must find the colors by yourself."

"How do I do that?"

"You must think about it. This crayon reacts to your heart. Right now, your heart is soft and warm. That’s why… look closely at the crayon."

Kaorin stared at the crayon with excitement.
Then something amazing happened.

"Wow! Now I have two crayons! A pink one appeared!"

The old woman said:

"When you want something to come true, you need the right 'colors' to draw it. To get more crayons, you need to feel many things. Your heart is the key. The more you feel, the more colors will appear."

🚪Back to the Real World

"I got it, Grandma! I’ll try to collect more colors and draw my wishes!"

Kaorin waved goodbye to the old woman—and suddenly,
she woke up.

It was a dream… but it felt so real.

She ran to the kitchen and told her mom all about it.
Her mom looked surprised.

"Kaorin, you’re holding a white crayon in your hand!"

"What?!"

She looked at her hand—and yes, there was a white crayon.

"It wasn’t a dream after all?!"

🌟The First Adventure

Kaorin and her mom looked at each other.
Then, Kaorin looked at the crayon again—and suddenly:

"The pink crayon is back again!"

Kaorin and her mom were so surprised!

"Kaorin, let’s go feel lots of things, like the magic grandma said!"

They sat on the kitchen chairs and stared at the crayon.
But nothing else happened.

"Why won’t it change?"

"I think we can’t just sit still. Let’s move!"

"Okay! I’ll go outside and meet new people and places!"

🌼Collecting Feelings and Colors

Kaorin put on her favorite hat and shoulder bag and walked outside.

First, she saw a beautiful flower field.

"Wow! So many butterflies!"

She felt amazed. Then she looked at the crayon.

A new pink crayon appeared!

Next, she saw a boy crying because he fell down.
Some friends helped him and made funny faces.

Kaorin ran to him and said:

"Are you okay? That must’ve hurt."

The boy smiled and said:

"Thanks! I’m okay now!"

Then, a blue crayon appeared!

🖍24 Magic Colors

Kaorin kept walking, meeting people, and feeling lots of things.
Before she knew it—

"Now I have 24 crayons! I can draw anything!"

She remembered the grandma’s words.
These were magic crayons that make dreams come true.

🏡Dreams Come True

Kaorin went home.
Her mom gave her some paper, and Kaorin said:

"What should I draw? What do I want to come true?"

"Yes! I know!"

She started with the white crayon and drew with joy.

"Look, Mom!"

She drew a soft-serve ice cream shop, filled with her favorite designs, T-shirts, and hats.

🍦A Few Years Later...

That shop really opened. Kaorin became the shop owner.

She said:

"The magic grandma and the white crayon taught me something—‘You have to act!’
If nothing starts, just move. Even if you fail, that becomes wind for the future.
Like my 24 crayons, our experiences help us make our dreams real."

And she smiled.

🚀A Message for You

"That’s why I still go on adventures.
There are many colors I haven’t seen yet.
Hey, you over there—don’t just sit still. Come with me!
Your white crayon is waiting. Let’s go feel something and add colors.
Just like me—right now!"

The End.
