A 60-Year-Old's Movie Memo: November 2025 - Ordinary Kids
December starts tomorrow! Time really flies...
And it's cold! It's cold, but this time I'm writing about a summer movie again.
This time, the film is "Ordinary Kids." It is a 2025 Japanese movie.
The setting is modern-day Japan, and the protagonist is Yuishi, a fourth-grade elementary school student.
He lives in an apartment with his mother and father. He walks to school with friends every morning, plays with them after school, and attends cram school—he's a boy you could find anywhere.
Yuishi, wanting to catch the attention of a girl he admires, decides to tackle environmental issues. Along with another cool boy, the three of them start their own environmental campaign, but...
Even though they call it an environmental campaign, the boys really just want to get close to the girl. Their activities
escalate rapidly, eventually turning into a huge commotion that involves the whole school and the local community!
Nowadays, classes use tablets, and the school building has an open-school design with no partitions between classrooms and hallways (I work in school-related fields, so I couldn't help but notice). Even though it's summer, the children and teachers seem somewhat cool, but I thought their actions—like looking for woodlice or using an empty house as a base for their activities—haven't changed from the old days.
As for the cast, the child actors are truly natural and look like they're having fun. The whole class adds a great touch. Amidst that, Shunsuke Kazama, who plays the homeroom teacher, felt so realistic—I wonder if this is what teachers are like these days!
I recommend watching this with parents, family, or friends. People of all ages can enjoy it. It might even be fun to talk about everyone's different impressions after watching it!
If I write too much, I might end up spoiling the plot, so I'll stop here for now...
The movie theater this time was also "otto" in Omiya.
I've used up quite a lot of my coupon book. I also enjoyed the drinks and pizza.
I'm happy that I can enjoy a movie and lunch in one place!
Thank you very much to everyone who read this again.
See you next time!
