[Director's Column] Why I continue to insist on the 'palm of my hand' even after introducing the latest technology. 30 years of 'healing touch' and my determination in Kanazawa
I hope you will read this while enjoying a cup of coffee during a quiet moment on a Sunday.
At our clinic, we actively incorporate the latest technology, such as 'WINBACK,' to quickly relieve pain. I am truly amazed by the evolution of machinery, and it is a powerful partner in helping our patients regain their smiles.
However, no matter how remarkable the evolution of technology may be, there is something I, as a therapist, have never been able to let go of in 30 years.
That is the 'warmth of human hands.'
'Healing touch' is the most sensitive sensor for listening to the SOS of the mind and body.
Since ancient times, the treatment of illnesses and injuries has been called 'te-ate' (healing touch), and I realize the depth of this word every day.
Gently placing my hand on a painful area and rubbing it softly. It may look like a simple act, but I can feel the 'anxiety' and 'fear' held by the patient slowly melting away from my palm.
The slightest tension in the muscles
The coldness transmitted from the skin
The tempo of shallow breathing
My palms are the most delicate sensors in the world, picking up the unspoken 'SOS of the mind and body.' By placing my hands on them, a sense of security is born, and the switch for the 'natural healing power' that people inherently possess is turned on.
I am convinced that this is the 'greatest power of hands' that no state-of-the-art equipment can imitate.
7:00 AM in Kanazawa. To everyone who has supported me for 30 years.
For 30 years, I have been opening the doors of my clinic at 7:00 AM every morning here in Kanazawa.
The reason I have been able to keep running until today is thanks to none other than each and every one of my patients. The fact that there are people who have trusted our clinic and visited us for years, or even decades—this daily accumulation is something that makes me, as a therapist, feel happier than words can express, and I am filled with gratitude.
The relieved smile after treatment and the single phrase, 'I feel lighter.' Each one of these is the driving force behind my every morning.
My determination for the future: The essence that does not change even as the times change.
While the forms of medicine and treatment tools change with the times, the essence that we should provide never changes.
That is to remain a partner that stays close to the patient's life and supports their health throughout their lifetime.
Even as I reach the 30-year milestone, I have no intention of being satisfied with the status quo. I will continue to incorporate the latest knowledge while further honing the sense of listening with my palms.
"If you come here, you'll be fine."
To continue being a place where you can truly feel that way from the bottom of your heart. For the new week starting tomorrow, I will be waiting at my clinic in Kanazawa with a wonderful smile and warm hands.
