A story about a parent and child who find joy in seeing '1111': Genetics are scary!
You might wonder what I mean by 'genetics are scary.' They say blood ties are unbreakable, and sometimes I really see why.
Today is November 11th. It's the day of '1111,' with four ones in a row. You might wonder what the big deal is, but I love repeating ones. When I happen to see 11:11 on a digital clock, I feel a little flutter of excitement, thinking something good might happen. But I thought I was the only one.
However, one day, while I was spending some quiet time with my father at the facility where he lived, he suddenly started clapping his hands and shouting, 'Wow!' When I asked him what was wrong, he said, 'It's 1111.' Honestly, I was surprised. I had never talked to him about that before, so why would he do that?
Then, another day, I was absentmindedly scratching around my hip in the kitchen, even though it wasn't particularly itchy. My husband suddenly shouted, 'I knew I'd seen that somewhere before—it's just like your mother!' We don't even realize it ourselves, so to think we resemble each other in such ways...
That's why genetics are scary. It's natural for faces, physical traits, and ways of thinking to be similar, but it's surprising when even the smallest, most unexpected habits match. Did I learn them by watching when I was little? Even so, it's a feeling that's a bit frightening, yet somehow makes me happy.
