Q: 大事な初戦振り返っていかがですか?
- Looking back at this important opening match, how did you feel about it?
Y: そうですね、１セット目の前半の入りは非常に良かったと思いますけど、後半、トルコの９番の選手のところで連続失点あって逆転されてから少し流れを向こうに掴まれてしまって、そこから流れを取り返さないといけない場面でしたけど、こちらのミスとかサイドアウトが切れずに１セット取られてしまって、まあそこからもうずっと同じような展開を続けてしまったので、そこは反省、反省点だと思います。
- I mean, um, the beginning of the first set was very good. But later, we lost consecutive points against Turkey’s 9 and they turned it around. After that, we allowed them to take the momentum and we had to get it back right away, but we still made some errors and couldn’t side out. And that ended up giving them the first set. And yeah, we kept repeating the same patterns, so that’s what we need to reflect on.

Q: ただ、まだまだ始まったばかりでキャプテンから次の試合に向けて気持ちを切り替えないといけないと思うんですけど、次のカナダ戦に向けて、まずどういった立て直しをしていきたいですか？
- However, this tournament’s just begun and of course you need to reset your mentality for next match. As a captain, how are you going to make a plan for the game against Canada?
Y: まあほんとに負けてしまった事実は変わらないので、それをしっかり受け入れて、もうわかったうえでまずは気持ちの切り替え、そしてもう一度僕たちがやらなければいけない、サイドアウトだったりとか、今日も相手にエースも取られて、たくさん取られてしまったので、そういったところをまずは修正するべきだと思います。
- Well, since we can’t change the fact that we lost, we need to accept it first. And clear our minds and then focus on things that we have to execute, especially side-out. We gave up lots of aces today. So yeah, we need to adjust those things.

Q: まず日本の強みとして何をだしていきましょうか？
- What should Team Japan show as its strength?
Y: まずはディフェンスのところレセプションだったりディグだったり、そういったところもう一度丁寧にやっていきたいと思いますし、まああとはスマートなリバウンドをとったりとかラリーを長くするようなプレーをしていかないといけないと思います。
- First of all, our defence, like receptions and digs. We’ll try to be more disciplined there and well, I think we need to make smart rebounds and, you know, whatever helps us keep the rally alive.

Q: 改めて、次の試合から負けられない試合が続くと思いますが、意気込みをよろしくお願いします。
- Again, you’ve got matches you cannot afford to lose coming up. What is your mindset heading into those matches?
Y: 本当に負けられない試合ですし、まあ後はここから今のままでは次の試合も苦戦するとは思いますけど、この大会の中で成長してもう本当にもう一つ一つ勝っていくしかないと思います。
- For sure, there are matches we cannot afford to lose. And I guess if we keep going the way we are now, we’ll probably struggle again. But we will grow through this tournament and take it one win at a time. That’s all we need to do.
