3 days until the "Hitoiro-ten" (One Color Exhibition) opens.
"Hitoiro-ten" is an exhibition showcasing various collaborative works featuring the "Iro no Ko" (Color Children) characters drawn by Asami Ishino.
Ahead of the exhibitions in Fukuoka in June and Yokohama in September, we are opening an online shop!
The opening is on Monday, April 24th at 20:00!
I have decided to write countdown posts until the opening day. I would be happy if you could count down the days with me and get excited.
Today, I'd like to talk a little bit about embroidery thread.
The reason I came to love embroidery so much is that I was asked to make cross-stitch charms that appear in the novel "Kawasemi Canelé" by Haikei Ankoboro-san.

At that time, I struggled with the shape of the flying kingfisher, but finding the right color of embroidery thread was also difficult.
Until then, whenever I went to buy embroidery thread, I would just choose from what was available at the craft store I happened to visit, and I never thought about which manufacturer it was from or anything like that.
When I went to look for kingfisher-colored embroidery thread, I opened and closed the drawers full of embroidery thread at the first craft store I entered, but there was no color that felt just right.
I had no choice but to compromise a little and bought a vibrant blue.
Then, the next day, I happened to go to a different craft store for another errand, so I decided to open and close the embroidery thread drawers there as well.
Then, I found a color that wasn't in the drawer I saw yesterday. I was so happy, thinking this might be closer to a kingfisher, so I bought that thread too.
Thinking, "Could it be!?", I decided to take a train to yet another craft store and opened and closed the embroidery thread drawers again.
I saw so many that I got a bit confused, but I discovered that there are many manufacturers of embroidery thread, that even the same blue can have subtle differences depending on the manufacturer, and that even with the same manufacturer, the colors in stock vary from store to store!!
I managed to get the kingfisher color I felt was "the one," made this charm, and successfully got the okay from the author, Kobo-chan.
That was a very long introduction.
Right. The Iro no Ko!
I tried several types of thread to test the embroidery for the Iro no Ko. I also tried various types of stitches and worried about whether to use three strands or two.
As a result, I felt that the thread from a manufacturer called COSMO had the softest feel and the colors were delicate, making it perfect for the Iro no Ko.
I will use two strands for the face embroidery on the pouches, and one strand for the full-body embroidery on the charms.
I intend to use chain stitch as the main stitch for both.
I will choose the closest color by layering the embroidery thread over the photos of the Iro no Ko.
While choosing threads for the Iro no Ko this time, I thought it must be similar to choosing paints.
You can't mix colors to create new ones, but you can adjust the intensity by changing the number of strands or the size of the stitches. I wonder if this is similar to adding water to paint.
I'm stitching as if I'm painting a picture.
Please do take a look at them.
