The Second Bloom of Osmanthus / It Seems Japanese Osmanthus Trees Are Mostly Male

The osmanthus tree on my commute was blooming in October. Perhaps because of the rain, it scattered quite quickly, and as someone who loves the scent of osmanthus, I felt a bit sad... but then...

November. The tree that had just lost its flowers now has buds on it. Wait, is it planning to bloom again!?

Was it so frustrated that the long rain made it scatter right after blooming? No, no, am I mistaken? I'm sure this was the tree that was blooming the other day, though...?

Cherry blossoms don't bloom again after they've scattered, do they?
But while zinnias keep the same flowers blooming for a long time, hibiscus flowers bloom and wither, bloom and wither... and apparently, the flowers of the Ficus erecta are inside something that looks like a fruit... so every flower has its own way of blooming. Is this just how it is?

This time, it didn't scatter immediately due to rain, and it feels like it's blooming longer than the first time. That's good, that's good.

By the way, osmanthus is a dioecious tree native to China, but it seems that the osmanthus trees distributed in Japan are almost all male. Female trees apparently bear fruit, but since they can be propagated from male trees alone, and male trees have better flower production, that's why...

I had no idea it was such a unique plant. I feel like I might have heard that somewhere before, but I must not have paid much attention to it, because I'm surprised now.

Even so, there are so many dioecious plants. I thought plants didn't have 'boys' and 'girls'... that they were all hermaphroditic, but to think that many of the plants around me have a concept of gender (?) ... There is so much I don't know.
