Day 14 of a visually impaired middle school student's life at a regular school 🏓
As the emoji in the title suggests, today's story is about table tennis.
In today's PE class, there were several activities, and we were told to choose the one we wanted to do.
There were three options: table tennis, badminton, or basketball.
I thought all of them sounded difficult, but I figured table tennis would be the most doable, so I gave it a try.
A few years ago, I tried my best to hit the floating ball, but it was quite difficult, and it felt the same way this time.
I can hit the ball myself, but it was hard to return the ball coming from my opponent.
It didn't last long at all, and I felt bad for the other student, but as I kept playing, I gradually started to get the hang of it.
By listening to the sound of the ball bouncing, I could roughly tell whether it had cleared the net or not, and by guessing whether it was to the right or left based on the sound of the ball coming from my opponent, I was able to return it a few times.
By the way, it was a constant cycle of 'by the time the ball entered my field of vision, it was already too late!' lol
I have a sound-emitting table tennis ball used for STT (Sound Table Tennis) at home, so I thought that if I had the chance, I could bring it to school and maybe play STT if they could raise the net a little.
The teachers at school are also thinking about what I might be able to do.
We don't have a proper ball, but since the school has balls that make sound, I thought it would be fun if we could play something like goalball with them.
At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to do any of the activities, but I'm glad I tried table tennis.
It was difficult, but it was fun.
