[Game Review 11] "Warpman" is food for thought.
This time, it's the action shooting game "Warpman". The charm of this game is that you can enjoy it in various ways, such as moving back and forth between two worlds, or steadily setting bombs in one world to defeat enemies.

■ Encountering the game
I believe I bought it at a discount a little while after it was released.
■ Fashionable namcot
At the time, I had an image of Namco as being fashionable and at the cutting edge of the era. That was largely due to the power of their commercials. Amidst cool background music (Haruomi Hosono), mysterious catchphrases (Shigesato Itoi) would play, such as "Calling interesting culture 'omocher' (toy-culture)," "Imagination is food for thought," and "Please imagine before you sleep." In today's terms, it was like a commercial combining Pocari Sweat and Tokyo Mode Gakuen, and its level of stylishness was completely different from commercials by other manufacturers like Nintendo, Hudson (BY HUDSON!), and Jaleco.
Also, the game boxes were numbered, giving the designs a sense of unity, and there was a feeling of wanting to collect them like comic books. There's no particular meaning to it, but I've listed them in numerical order (1-18). If you can name them all without looking, I'll give you a Xevious iron plate (just kidding).
namcot 1~18
1 Galaxian 2 Pac-Man 3 Xevious 4 Mappy 5 Galaga 6 Dig Dug 7 The Tower of Druaga 8 Warpman 9 Battle City 10 Pac-Land 11 BurgerTime 12 Star Luster 13 Tag Team Pro-Wrestling 14 Dig Dug II 15 Super Chinese 16 The Tower of Babel 17 The Adventure of Valkyrie 18 Sky Kid... After this, it goes to the hard case
■ Game content
Warpman warps between Space World and Maze World to exterminate interdimensional Bem.
■ Maze World is...
In Space World, you shoot Bem with a linear gun in one hand, but in Maze World, you defeat Bem by setting time bombs. It's a bomber-style mechanic where if you get caught in the blast, you lose a life.
■ Unique Bem
・Soldier Bem They appear from all four directions and move freely across the map.
Bero: Looks like King Nikochan
Doppe: Splits apart
Garamo: When stopped, you can't defeat it even if you attack. Troublesome in Maze World.
・Mystery Bem Appears when you defeat 3 Soldier Bem of the same color and type. Like the UFO in Space Invaders, it moves back and forth from corner to corner.
Kuwagattan: 500 points. Same name as a mecha from Time Bokan. I like Dotabattan
Onigaraman: 1000 points
Shishitogarin: 2000 points
・Extra Bem Appears in the same way as the Mystery Bem, carrying one of the letters E, X, T, R, or A. Defeat it to get that letter! Collect them all for a 1-up. However, from about the third letter, they start to repeat, making it quite hard to complete the set. Just when you think you've finally got one, it might appear from the diagonal while the screen is swarming with Bems, only for it to escape. Considering the difficulty balance, I wish that once you collected them all, you would become as fast as Pino from Famista and be able to fire 16 shots in a row.
■ Summary
I would love to see this character appear in the next Super Smash Bros. You might think it doesn't have much presence, but it would be perfect for disrupting the stage by warping all over the place and dropping bombs everywhere.
Thank you for reading until the end! I would be happy if you could click the heart as a sign that you read this.
