The super-duper basics I want to teach you, a note beginner, after 2 years and 10 months of (almost) daily posting
I think I can answer almost anything about note.
Oh, I can't answer things like 'how to make money'.
If it's about enjoying note, or keeping it up, then I can answer anything. Probably.
I also wrote an article teaching the basics.
I wrote the super-basics, and I also posted an update to that article.
Today, it's the super-duper basics.
Beginners, please pay close attention and read carefully.
◆ note name
For your note name, let's use your name or a nickname.
For example, these kinds of account names are common among beginners.
・55-year-old writer
・Writer who quit their job without even being successful yet
・Writer's rambling journal
There is no name (nickname).
This is just a job title.
I'll write about this later, but the real thrill of note is interacting through comments.
It's hard for people you've become friends with in the comments to call you by your name.
'George-san' or 'Nase-san' is one thing, but calling out to
'Writer who quit their job without even being successful yet-san' is a huge mental burden.
Why should they have to feel strange (or complicated) every time they call out to you?
This is the same for those who express their hobbies in their note name, like 'Wandering Rider / Bike debut at 55'.
It's the same for mysterious note names like 'Parinpi Star Elderly Prince'.
There are people who read your articles. Some may even leave comments. Even if they don't comment, people who read your articles will call out to you in their minds, thinking things like 'So-and-so is interesting' or 'I wonder what kind of person So-and-so is'.
Please be considerate of those people.
If you use a title-like note name, add a name (nickname) to it as well.
・Writer who quit their job without even being successful yet / Nase George
・Wandering 55-year-old rider @ Nase George
・Parinpi Star Elderly Prince | Nase George
It's good to make it feel like that so people can call you by your name (nickname).
In cases like this, I'll just omit the first part when I call out to you.
◆ Icon
Your icon is 100 times more important than you imagine.
When I check my notifications or browse through articles to read, I think, "Who is this?" or "Is that person here?" and I check 100% by the icon. I look for them by their icon.
Therefore, the worst thing you can do is set an icon that is commonly used.
For a while, there were so many dog icons that I couldn't tell who was who at all.
Are there free icons out there?
Even if it was rare when you first used it, you can't stop someone else from using it later. So, I cannot recommend using them.
Changing it frequently is also annoying for people you've become friends with. After all, they identify "you" by that icon.
To summarize,
・It is not good for your icon to overlap with other noters
・You should not change your icon frequently
That is all.
By the way, I recommend using the same icon for Twitter and Instagram as well.
That way, people can easily find you on other platforms and say, "It's so-and-so!"
◆ Basics of note operations, etc.
First, note official let's watch these videos.
The official note YouTube channel is here.
By the way, this channel also has many videos that are a must-see for intermediate note users and those who want to utilize note for business.
I will post just one video that I recommend for intermediate users.
◆ Daily posting
Let's post every day.
Do not be misled by pleasant-sounding words like "don't overdo it" or "at your own pace."
The only people who can keep posting like that are those who absolutely love to write.
To put it more accurately,
only those who are good at writing and also love to write can do it.
Only geniuses like Hione-san can do it.
Hione-san's profile article ↓
If you are not as gifted with writing as Hione-san, you must write every day.
Even three lines is fine.
If you are feeling unwell, even a single sentence saying "I can't do it today" is fine. Seriously.
For us ordinary people, that is the only way.
Making posting ahabit is the most important thing.
When you post every day, your brain changes.
It becomes a brain that assumes output.
Specifically, your input ability will improve. Your memory will also improve.
You will also acquire the habit of taking notes.
If you keep posting even if it kills you,
you will get better at writing.
In other words, you will also get better at speaking. Your thinking will deepen, you will get better at researching, and your knowledge will increase.
I would like to introduce some recommended books on writing.
And if you keep writing on note, you will definitely make wonderful note friends.
Please try to challenge yourself to post every day for at least one year.
*The (almost) in the title: I caught COVID in late August of this year and didn't post for one day. However, I recovered by posting two articles (proper text, not just short notes) the next day! But since it's not "every day," I called it (almost) daily. Even though it was only once... Ugh...
See? If I had just posted even a "Ugh...", I wouldn't have had to write this excuse.
◆ Interaction (Comments)
The culture on note is peaceful.
I have never seen any flame wars. There is also a block function.
Don't be afraid, and go ahead and comment on articles that move you.
By the way, this is something I learned in the book mentioned above, "Writing is Painful," but apparently [SNS is the Law of Mirrors].
If you deny it by saying "That's not true!", you will be denied.
If you criticize it as a "terrible article," you will be criticized.
That seems to be how it works.
There are inevitably people you don't get along with. Even if you like them, there are inevitably times when you are disliked by the other person. There will also be misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
It can't be helped. Don't refuse those who come, and don't chase those who leave. If you didn't like the person who came, you can just block them without hesitation.
The real thrill of note is interaction through comments.
Since there is no character limit on note, if you keep reading someone's articles, their personality will come through.
Birds of a feather flock together, and before you know it, a loose community centered around you will be formed.
Please keep commenting.
Not just greetings, but don't forget to share your thoughts on the article.
If you don't mention the article, the author will feel down, thinking, "Oh, they didn't read it." The author's interest lies in the reaction to the article, whether they worked hard to write it, are confident in it, or want feedback on it.
In the note world,
・Following someone without permission
・Leaving your first comment
・Introducing someone's article by linking to it in your own
are acceptable or even welcomed.
I have never been scolded for this even once, but if I were, I would just need to change my approach, right?
Even if you link to an article out of the blue, if it's to praise or recommend it, I think most people will be happy and no one will be angry.
It goes without saying, but linking to an article for the purpose of criticism is absolutely forbidden.
That would be too rude, wouldn't it?
Do not do to others what you would not want done to you.
Do for others what you would be happy to have done for you.
If you follow this simple rule, you will be fine.
◆ Past Articles
I will paste a bunch of past articles related to note.
Koyukisho is a support project I hold every week.
Here is a recent Koyukisho article ↓
If you leave a comment, you might win a Koyukisho award!
Comments are very welcome.
◆ Closing
Oh, it's about time I upgrade this note.
I have to make it a premium note.
It costs 500 yen per month.
My wife, Yukari-chan, the Minister of Finance in our home. Is 500 yen a month okay?
This is sudden, but
I love Yukari-chan.
