In the Daily Life of a Certain Family
"Galaxy Seller, Mom, come play with us!"
"Wait a second. I'll come once I finish tidying up here."
"Okay! Hurry, okay!"
A certain Sunday afternoon.
My 7-year-old son, Kaito, is engrossed in playing a game called "Galaxy Seller" with my husband. This game is an original one that Kaito came up with.
The "Galaxy Seller" game involves drawing galaxies on many different colored pieces of origami paper (Kaito and my husband draw them; I'm not good at drawing...), and writing one task on the blank side (we all think of and write them individually).
When playing the game, you shuffle them and buy and sell them without seeing the task, and the person who buys one must carry out that task.
The rule is that you take turns after each person has done it three times.
It's fine if the tasks are simple, but it's a problem when they're tough (like doing 30 squats...).
Kaito prefers coming up with his own games and stories or drawing pictures over things like watching TV. Whenever I'm at home, I sometimes end up joining in on his play like this.
Sometimes I think, "Oh boy," but I know that once he gets a little older, he probably won't be playing with me like this anymore.
Alright! I finished tidying up in a hurry and headed over to where Kaito and my husband were.
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
"I'm the one selling galaxies right now!"
"Okay."
"Well then, welcome! What color galaxy would you like?"
"Hmm, let's see... I'll take this green galaxy, please."
"Here you go! Thank you very much! Here!"
"Thank you."
I wonder what's written on it. I'm scared.
I looked at it timidly,
and it said, "Make hamburger steaks."
"It says, 'Make hamburger steaks.'"
Kaito looked happy and cheered, "Yay!"
"When? When will you make the hamburger steaks?"
Kaito asked me with a big smile on his face.
Hamburger steaks are Kaito's favorite food.
"I can make them today. We have the ingredients."
"Really? Yay! Dad, we're having hamburger steaks today! Yay!"
"Oh. Mom's hamburger steaks are delicious, after all."
"Yeah!"
Kaito and my husband high-fived each other in delight.
Watching my two beloved men, I felt a heartwarming sense of affection, thinking how much like father and son they are.
Oh. I mustn't let my guard down.
I still have two more tasks left to do.
I hope they are simple tasks...
I wish upon a galaxy.
"Welcome! What color galaxy would you like?"
With that, my cute little galaxy seller laughed happily.
