The story of how exhausted I was at the 3-year-old checkup
I feel like recent health checkups have two purposes:
one is to check the child's development,
and the other is to check the mental state of the parent raising them.
I want to leave a record of how I felt
after going to my second child's 3-year-old checkup.
Anyway, I was absolutely exhausted!!!
I was so tired I gave myself permission to binge-eat lol
The reason is
my 3-year-old son was moving around so much
and wouldn't sit still,
so it was really hard
chasing him around while carrying a huge bag.
It wasn't that he hated the checkup;
he was actually enthusiastic about it (he showed his tummy on his own lol),
but he was so excited to be in a new place
that he was in a mood where he wouldn't listen to a word I said lol
But isn't that just what 3-year-olds are like??
I think my daughter was pretty quiet when she was 3,
but that's just her personality, right??
There are all kinds of kids, right??
So, I don't really think anything
negative about my son.
Being with a 3-year-old and
・having to wait forever
・being told to wait right here
・having no space where the child can play while waiting
I think things like this
are what make parenting so hard.
Of course, it's really helpful and
I'm happy that they decorate with characters,
have picture books ready,
and speak to us kindly!
But making them go in order to be efficient,
trying to make a 3-year-old follow adult rules
is just unreasonable.
And feeling like you're a bad parent if you can't do that
is also wrong.
Looking at the parent mental health check on the form,
I felt like saying,
I'm usually fine and think they're cute♡ while raising them,
but it gets really hard when you go out into society.
Instead of giving us information on various services,
if they could just provide group checkups tailored to the children,
both the children and their parents would be very happy.
That alone would make us so happy!
It's only once every year and a half, so I can endure it, but
it drains so much energy...
In the end, they found astigmatism,
and I had to wait a long time
to get the referral letter.
I might have made a face like it was a hassle,
but it was never that going to the hospital for my child's astigmatism
was a hassle
(I'm worried, so I want to go right away),
but I was exhausted from having to wait
for 15 minutes to get the referral letter
in a place with nothing to do,
with a high-energy son who was bored, sleepy, and couldn't sit still!!
(Who am I even talking to lol)
That's how I felt.
If you're held captive for 3 hours at a checkup,
you end up feeling that way.
I was truly exhausted when I got home
and took a nap with him,
but I couldn't get up at all,
I couldn't go pick up my daughter,
I canceled dinner,
I had to postpone work,
and my energy was completely drained😇
I don't think there are any more group checkups,
but I am definitely not going.
I've decided to do them individually😇
But you know, the reason I get this tired
is probably because I still have a part of me that thinks I 'have to do it right'.
I don't want to be worried about as a mother,
I have to sit and wait properly,
I have to wait here,
I thought those things, and that's why I was so tired.
I didn't actually have to be in that spot.
I wouldn't have been scolded.
I could have gone somewhere else to play with my child while waiting.
It would have been fine to let him watch YouTube.
Oh, I see!!
It was inside me all along.
I was trying to be a 'good mother' again.
Toss it away!
