We published a book as parent and child about N High School: How a 'choice filled with anxiety' led to the future

'I've decided to go to N High School'

When I heard these words from my daughter,
to be honest, I wasn't entirely without anxiety.

・Will she really be okay?
・What about going to university?
・Will she have trouble in the future?

As a parent, it's impossible not to think about these things.

But I never imagined at the time that this choice
would lead to us publishing a book together as parent and child.

'N High School is not a passive choice'

In the world, it is still often seen as:

・A safety net for those who don't attend school
・A choice that deviates from the normal track
・A compromise for one's career path

Correspondence high schools are often viewed with such images.

But once we actually got inside, it was different.

✔ The ability to design one's own learning
✔ Time to deepen one's interest in specific fields
✔ A place for output that isn't bound by age or titles

It was an environment where 'how you learn' is valued more than 'academic background'.

The reason we ended up publishing a book

What my daughter was doing wasn't anything special.

・Putting thoughts into words
・Giving them shape through trial and error
・Reflecting on things, including failures

She was simply continuing the
'learning based on output' that was required daily at N High School.

I organized this from a parent's perspective,
thought 'this might be something I can share with other families,'
and we each compiled a book as parent and child.

What I want to convey most as a parent

Through this experience, what I felt strongly was,

That is what I mean.

N High School may not be for everyone.
There are pros and cons, and every family has their own way of thinking.

However, one thing I can say is this:
'Depending on how you choose, the way your future unfolds can change significantly.'
