Hello, this is Captain Frog.
Today, I want to talk about something I knew I would have to write about someday, though my fingers tremble a little as I type it.
A place we called a 'sacred site' and loved dearly. Every time I drove on the Tomei Expressway, seeing that adorable otter sign made me feel relieved, as if I had 'come home.' Yes, I am talking about the Tomei Atsugi Health Center (commonly known as Atsugi Otter).
August 31, 2025. An era came to an end. For me, living in the Tama area, Atsugi was not just a neighboring town, but a 'sanctuary for the soul' that allowed me to reset everything in my daily life. The rich scent of medicinal herbs that tickled my nose the moment I opened those doors, and above all, the 'blast furnace loyly' that mercilessly scorched my skin.
The facility has lost its physical form, but the 'heat' those days gave us has not yet faded.
■ Memories of the violently loving blast furnace loyly
When talking about Atsugi Otter, one cannot avoid mentioning that blast furnace loyly. The hot air released from the giant blower was, quite literally, a 'cauterization' that could never be described by a word as simple as 'pleasant.'
'It hurts, but I don't want to escape.'
Amidst such contradictory emotions, the sight of the staff fanning with all their might contained a stoicism akin to a martial art, combined with deep hospitality. The moment you jumped into the well-water-fed vibra cold bath after enduring that hot air—it was an experience close to 'enlightenment,' where all the worries of this world seemed to dissipate into mist.
Driving from Tama and getting off at the Atsugi IC. Even that short journey was a prologue to the 'totonoi' (the state of deep relaxation).
■ How to fill the 'sense of loss' after the facility is gone
As time has passed since the closing, we have become 'sauna refugees.' Of course, there are many other wonderful facilities. However, there is nowhere else that can replace the 'Atsugi Otter' that had that unique medicinal herb scent, that humidity, and that level of passion from the staff, all in one place.
I thought about it. Things with form will eventually disappear. But shouldn't the 'excitement' and 'habits' we gained there remain within us?
Now that I can no longer go to that sacred site, I have decided to update my life to the 'Atsugi Otter Style' as a way to express my gratitude for those days.
■ My new three sacred treasures to bring the 'sacred site' into daily life
Here, I will introduce the items I have recently adopted to inherit the spirit of Atsugi Otter. This is a selection that appeals more to the 'senses' than the gadgets I have used before.
1. Recreating that 'medicinal bath' at home: Authentic medicinal herb bath salts Speaking of the Atsugi Health Center, it is that dark brown herbal bath. Just by being wrapped in that scent, I knew my autonomic nervous system was being regulated. Recently, I started using authentic 100% medicinal herb bath salts. If you soak in the tub and close your eyes, it is the Atsugi herbal bath. That scent forcibly flips the 'totonoi' switch in my brain.

Although Atsugi Otter is gone, the 'heat' we received there is something we should now pass on to others, or ignite within our own daily lives.
Personal rating: 5 stars. I may never encounter another facility in my life that deserves a higher score. But with those best memories in my heart, I will continue to walk through new curtains.
