My daughter who runs away naked and the "Where could she be?" song
Ever since my daughter started walking, she has been the type to just wander off on her own.
In the middle of using the bathroom. In the middle of cooking. Suddenly, I realize my daughter is gone.
The sliding door is open, and nearby are her discarded panties, pants, and so on...
What!?
Naked!?
The blood drains from my face even more.
Accidents, kidnapping, all sorts of things cross my mind.
I frantically search outside, but she isn't there. She's so small, I can't find her.
Oh, why did I take my eyes off her? Why was the sliding door unlocked? What should I do if I can't find her?
...I'm in a panic.
Sometimes the neighborhood kids see me panicking and help me look, and we eventually find her in the shadows of the bicycle parking area.
Then, on another day, she was topless, wearing a drawstring bag like a backpack, using a gauze blanket as a cape, and standing in front of the house upstairs.
She's a quiet child and rarely makes a sound, so I'm genuinely terrified that I wouldn't notice if something happened to her.
She's done this many times. She's even done it at her grandparents' house.
Even now that she's four, she still does it.
So, I taught her the "Where could she be?" song.
I told her, when I sing, "Daughter, daughter, where could you be?"
"I'm here, I'm here, I'm right here!"
You have to answer in a loud voice, I told her.
It has never actually been useful when I'm frantically searching for her, though.
But it's cute, so I recommend it.
She answers me properly when we're just inside the house, at least.
...Honestly, she's someone I can't take my eyes off of for even a single second.
Do you have similar struggles?
Please let me know in the comments.
