Even though it's the start of autumn, the Kumazemi cicadas are still sending midsummer greetings
The start of autumn / A Kumazemi cicada flies / And hits me head-on
According to the calendar, it is now autumn.
However, the Kumazemi cicadas are not saying "midsummer" greetings,
but rather, as if to say "I'm constantly greeting you," they are giving me a double dose of greetings with their head-on collisions and their pee. 🤣
To Autumn.
I appreciate you putting up the sign for the start of autumn, but haven't you forgotten the most important part—the coolness?
If I look up at the sky, there are still towering cumulonimbus clouds.
In the garden, there is a grand chorus of cicadas.
Even so, at the storefront, the Chinese lantern plants to be offered during Obon have begun to turn red.
Amidst the bustle of summer, a quiet season of remembering our ancestors is approaching.
The changing of the seasons is not just about the sky or the garden. The same thing is happening little by little in the city as well.
Convenience store oden starts selling around September, when the heat still lingers.
On the other hand, the peak season for craving ice cream is in the middle of summer.
At the storefront, oden and ice cream are passing the seasonal baton to each other. 🍢🍨
The cicadas are still shouting for summer, while the Chinese lantern plants announce autumn.
There seems to be a somewhat interesting time lag between the calendar and our daily lives.
Perhaps it is that very time lag that allows us to savor the four seasons of Japan over and over again.
