As a director, through my interviews, I have met many people with truly diverse jobs and titles.

Looking back at each one of them, no,
looking back at each individual,
I realized something.

Everyone I feel is "attractive" or "amazing"
is "enjoying" their work
with "heart" and "passion."

By "enjoying," I don't mean something shallow like "yay!" or "wow!"...
It means the whole cycle of thinking, challenging, failing, experiencing setbacks, and still continuing to move forward driven by "heart and passion"—that is what it means to "enjoy" it.

The other day, I met another wonderful person like that and got to experience exactly that kind of way of life.
I would like to share it here✨

Silk thread + gold leaf!? An innovative jewelry artist

I met a female gold leaf jewelry artist and designer. She creates and sells jewelry using very delicate and beautifully shining gold leaf. Everything is so beautiful✨

At a glance, you might think it's gold jewelry, but when you pick it up... it's incredibly light!! It's so light I think it might be lighter than a one-yen coin.

And there's a reason for that; this delicate design ismade by applying "gold leaf," a traditional craft of Kanazawa, onto lace woven from silk thread!

But gold leaf on lace is so rare...
How was this work born?

I love unraveling these stories♡
By listening to her story, her "narrative" comes into view.

The frustration of her office worker days became the catalyst for opening a new path

She originally started knitting when she was in kindergarten. Her older sister, who was much older, was a knitting teacher. She has loved "making" things since she was old enough to remember.

As an adult, she went to work for a Western tableware manufacturer in Ishikawa Prefecture and was assigned to the product development department, where she created and released various products into the world. When I asked her if this was the best job for someone who loves "making" things, she gave me an unexpected answer.

"We would think about product planning and content in the conference room, but I couldn't interact directly with the consumers who would buy and use them. I couldn't meet them to hear their impressions or opinions. I always felt a sense of frustration about not being able to see their faces."

I see... I felt that this might be a common occurrence unique to corporate organizations. Receiving summarized data and opinions from product monitor tests, then discussing them in meetings again...

As she repeated those days, her frustration gradually grew, and she said her mind and body began to scream.
"I want to do work where I can interact directly with customers and deliver my creations to them."

From there, she steered her career toward entrepreneurship, focusing on "knitting," which she had always loved and continued to do, and began acquiring various techniques.

If there is no precedent, create it yourself! Commercializing by "enjoying" the research process

After encountering the traditional British technique of "tatting lace," she made a firm resolution to create accessories using this lace, which can express delicate patterns.
Because the shape is easily deformed, she wondered if she could maintain its stiffness with something... she wondered if there was a material she could wear even with her metal allergy... and that is how she arrived at using "gold leaf," a traditional craft from Kanazawa.

You might think, hearing that, that it doesn't sound that difficult. I thought so too. However, it seems this requires extremely advanced technology...

When she inquired with gold leaf companies, they told her, "We have no experience applying gold leaf to thread," so she decided to apply the gold leaf with her own hands.
From there, she researched adhesives, thread types, and durability after application while consulting with industrial research institutes, and it took her several years to finally commercialize it (she even obtained a patent for the technique)!

……Isn't that amazing!!!

If I write it down like this, you might just gloss over it with a "Wow!", butshe faced every difficulty and challenge with the strong desire to "establish a technique that no one else has done: gold leaf on lace" and the passion to "realize a job where I can interact directly with customers," and she overcame them to create her product.

That is exactly what it means to"enjoy" moving toward the future you envision.

Since then, she has expanded her field of activity by exhibiting and selling in New York, Paris, and around the world, and she currently spends her days taking on new challenges with the new goal of passing on this technique.
"I strongly hope that the new handiwork I have created will one day become a tradition."
Her calm expression was very impressive.

People who truly "enjoy" what they do are wonderful!
I felt that once again this time.

And I am grateful that I was able to meet such a wonderful person, hear deep stories about the path she has walked and her work, and convey that charm through the broadcast. I am also grateful that I am able to do my own work while "enjoying" it✨

What your "true self" seeks = work you love

The values at your core that you want to cherish. The unyielding desires and things you want to accomplish. The trigger doesn't have to be something big. Rather, what is it that your unadorned, true self is seeking?

I love this!
I have fun when I do this!
This is when my heart is moved!
I never get tired of doing this no matter how much I do!
