The Most Exciting Moment
Good evening! This is NAOMI from Maarufu.
In Ishigaki Island,
I am taking on the challenge of
breathing new life into hotel linens that were meant to be discarded.
This is the 47th episode of my 100-day record.
++++++++++++++++++++
Within this dyeing process,
there is one major thrill.
That is,
tie-dyeing.
++++++++++++++++++++
Folding the fabric,
twisting it,
and tying it with string.
++++++++++++++++++++
Depending on where and how you tie it,
parts that get dyedand parts that don't are created.
++++++++++++++++++++
Those layersturn into patterns.
++++++++++++++++++++
And then,
the moment you untie the string is the most exciting part.
++++++++++++++++++++
And this fabric,
was originally used in a hotel.
Small stains,
or faint marks may sometimes remain.
++++++++++++++++++++
However,
including those "traces,"
is part of the fabric's history.
++++++++++++++++++++
By tie-dyeing it,
those parts,
not only become less noticeable,
but as part of the pattern,
they blend in naturally.
++++++++++++++++++++
Not hiding them,
but making the most of them.
++++++++++++++++++++
That, too, is
This is one of the interesting aspects of this dyeing process.
++++++++++++++++++++
And,
there is a most exciting moment.
++++++++++++++++++++
When the dyeing is finished,
and I untie the strings,
and unfold the fabric.
++++++++++++++++++++
I don't know what kind of pattern it has become,
until that very moment.
++++++++++++++++++++
As I slowly open the fabric,
a pattern different from what I imagined appears,
or an unexpected shape emerges.
++++++++++++++++++++
In that moment,
there is a little tension,
and a sense of surprise that suddenly releases.
++++++++++++++++++++
The feeling of naturally accepting,
"So this is how it turned out."
+++++++++++++++++++++++
That is,
within this time,
the most exciting moment.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Even though I should have made it myself,
somehow,
it feels as if I created it together with nature.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
That experience itself,
is the true thrill of this dyeing time.
