It is precisely because things do not go according to plan that your core becomes stronger.
When you try to start something, I think the first thing you do is make a plan.
Drawing a map to move forward is important, and it is natural to feel anxious without one. There is almost no goal that can be achieved without a plan.
However, I think it is just as important to know the reality that things often do not go according to plan.
In fact, it is normal for plans to go awry, and what matters is how you adjust your course when that happens.
Right now, I am preparing to open my own shop.
I estimated the funds, set a schedule, and made a list of supplies. At first, I thought, 'This should be about right.'
But once I actually started moving, all sorts of unexpected things came up.
Construction took longer than expected, additional supplies were needed, and even the cost of small consumables added up to a significant amount.
Before I knew it, I was constantly surprised, thinking, 'Wait, has that much money already flown away?'
At times like this, I think many people feel discouraged when things don't go as planned. But whether or not you can accept that 'the plan falling apart is a given' makes a huge difference in your peace of mind.
Plans are important.
But they are not 'answers that must be strictly followed,' but rather 'maps for moving forward.'
Once you actually start walking, it is normal to encounter bumps and road closures that aren't on the map.
The same goes for preparing a shop. 'It should fit within the budget,' 'Construction should finish on this day,' 'Everything should be ready by the opening.'
Those 'shoulds' easily waver in reality. But it is better to think of them not as 'failures,' but as 'signs for adjustment.'
It is precisely when a plan deviates that the essence becomes visible.
When funds cost more than expected, you seriously think about 'what to prioritize for investment.'
When the schedule is pushed back, you figure out 'what can be done now.'
In fact, when I faced additional costs, I rethought things, saying, 'It's impossible to get everything. So, what is the value I most want customers to experience?' At that moment, I wasn't just chasing numbers; the 'core of my shop' became clear.
Things not going according to plan is a chance to re-examine your core.
Many people make plans in order to "stick to them."
But in reality, it is just right to "make plans on the assumption that they will break."
If you become obsessed with sticking to them, you will blame yourself when things go off track.
However, if you can think, "It's okay if it breaks, what matters is how I adjust," the plan itself becomes something you can use flexibly.
The same goes for opening preparations. The initial plan is just a starting point. I believe that "re-questioning" things every time a discrepancy arises from actually doing them is what makes a shop strong.
Even if things don't go according to plan, it's fine as long as the essence of "why I want to do this" remains unshaken.
Even if opening preparations cost more than expected or the schedule gets thrown off, if what you want to deliver through this shop is clear, the path will always connect.
Conversely, if you feel anxious and stop when a plan goes awry, it might be proof that you have lost sight of the "core" that is more important than the plan.
Plans are important. But there are many times when things don't go according to plan.
That is not a failure, but a signal to adjust and a chance to re-examine the essence.
Money and time will cost more than expected. But each time, it became an opportunity to rethink, "What is truly necessary?" and "What is the most important thing I want to cherish in this shop?"
A plan is a map. It's okay if it breaks.
What you really need to protect is the "reason" and "core" for moving along that path.
If you are trying to take on a challenge right now.
It is important to make a plan. But do not fear the "unexpected," and use it as a chance to re-examine the essence from there.
Plans will collapse.
But the essence will not.
