About the fighting "Archangel"
Greetings
Hello.
Have you ever fallen in love at first listen with a song you heard on the radio?
I have a few.
Songs I searched for for years and finally found...
Songs where I desperately memorized the title and artist name, then bought them on a streaming service.
Today, I'd like to pick one of those songs to introduce to you.
GLIM SPANKY "Archangel"
Oh, man, this one.
It can be summed up in one word: cool.
First, from the very beginning, the way it drops to an M7th (major seventh) note on "yomigaeru watashi wa daitenshi" is incredibly cool and sticks in your ears.
Also, the bassline is cool.
Then, a nicely distorted guitar riff comes in on top of that.
Well, just give it a listen once.
GLIM SPANKY "Archangel"
The way it keeps modulating and building up is also exciting.
Like the explosion of unison bending at just the right moment.
I apologize to those who are thinking, "I don't understand these technical terms!" up to this point.
I'm just repeating over and over that it's cool and awesome.
About the lyrics
To be clear, I am the type of person who
doesn't really listen to the "lyrics"
and listens exclusively to the "sound".
Therefore, I won't really
mention the lyrics.
However, just one thing.
The English title of this song is
"Angel," but...
why is it "Archangel" in Japanese?
This, right here.
The word "Angel"
feels somewhat innocent and beautiful, but
I don't think that's the case for this song.
An "Archangel" is
a fighting angel, like how Michael
comes to mind by association. Probably.
It is taking a fighting stance
against a demon, or perhaps something else.
That is how I felt.
It's just my own personal impression, though.
Reminds me of classic HR
The reason my blood boiled
when listening to this song was...
Because it was when I was listening to music
from an era slightly before
my own youth, long ago...
Yes,
it's because it reminded me of the feeling
I had when listening to the genre
called "HARD ROCK."
A guitar sound that is more rustic than METAL,
yet hard and vivid.
As a representative song,
I'll recommend this one.
Deep Purple's "Highway Star"
I thought "Smoke On the Water"
might be more famous, though
The reason my blood boiled in my younger days
is because of this song.
A thought I had
And so, right now,
what is at the top
of my playlist is...
the "Archangel"
I introduced today.
After listening to a little bit of GLIM SPANKY,
what I thought was,
hard rock
is still alive
in modern Japan!
...that was it.
If you have any other recommended songs,
please let me know.
