An encounter with a 'community just for creating letters' ignited my 'creative soul'...!
Basically, when it comes to fonts,
・Mincho
・Gothic
and then using free fonts for
cute or handwritten styles,
if you can master those,
I think even an amateur can make
WEB design look decent.
When I started learning WEB design,
that's what I thought while making flyers.
However, there were many times
where I felt something was off,
or it just didn't feel right...
The reason I started creating my own lettering
was because I decided to just do it myself.
At that time, I happened to come across a
“lettering community” on X.
I joined casually,
and for the weekly themes,
everyone creates something,
and we just post it on a set date.
That was all there was to it,
with no prize money and no praise.
But for me, this
encounter with the community
feels like it changed my life
a little bit, haha.
First of all, what was shocking was
that there were tons of people making a living
just by “creating letters.”
In an era where so many free fonts
can be downloaded for free,
and there are templates too... seriously?...
I was blown away.
I can't say specifically, but
・Lettering design for children's toys
・Logos for famous companies (letter-focused)
・Requests for VTuber's flashy names
and so on...
And to begin with,
the people in that community were the ones
who created the “free fonts” I mentioned earlier! 😂
I realized I had joined an incredible community.
I've always loved letters,
and while I was on leave from work, I wondered
how I could monetize such a niche hobby,
but thanks to this community,
I started thinking, “I want to pursue this more...!!”
Since then, I participate every week,
and just the other day, even though my savings
were about to hit rock bottom,
I joined a 30,000 yen course.
I thought, “It’s an investment and a return!!”
and paid the money to motivate myself, haha.I guess I'm the HSS type, haha.
With all that said,
I hope to monetize my lettering and illustrations
from here on out.
Oh, of course, recovering from depression is my top priority though 😅
