Let's build a strategy and take a step closer to success
“Strategy” is a word you hear in many places, isn't it?
It feels like the image of it being something cool that smart people think about just goes ahead of everything else.
On the other hand, it is also a word whose meaning and importance are difficult to understand.
I suddenly remembered a book that explains the concept of strategy in an easy-to-understand way.
It is "Why Strategy Makes a Difference" by Daisuke Otobe.
Using this book as a reference, I will introduce how to think about strategy using Note as a subject.
The significance of strategy
Strategy has three significances.
✅ Having a strategy increases the probability of achieving your "purpose."
✅ You will be able to achieve your purpose better.
✅ You can return to your purpose.
By having a strategy, you can increase the probability of achieving your "purpose." And even for the same achievement, you will be able to achieve it better. In both cases, the driving force is that the "purpose" to be achieved becomes clear, and the "resources" mobilized are used effectively and efficiently.
In addition to the above, I would like to introduce one more thing.
Being able to return to your purpose periodically.
When people are desperately working on what is right in front of them, they forget what they were aiming for.
It is an everyday occurrence that you were initially trying to go to the right, but suddenly realize you have gone to the left.
Every time that happens, you can say "no, no" and correct your course.
I believe this is the great significance of strategy.
Strategy is a guideline for resource utilization to achieve a purpose
I am sorry for using the vague word "strategy" many times.
Here, I will clarify the definition of "strategy"!
Strategy is a guideline for resource utilization to achieve a purpose
In other words, strategy is composed of two things: "purpose" and "resources."
If you can understand the meaning and examples of these two, the word "strategy" should feel much closer to you.
Purpose
A good purpose has no ambiguity.
So, what is a purpose without ambiguity?
In this book, frameworks such as SMAC and SMART are introduced.
Since it is difficult to understand if there are too many elements, I will narrow it down to two.
✅ Be specific
✅ Be measurable
A good purpose is something specific and measurable.
However, depending on the subject matter, some ambiguity may be necessary.
Can you describe your life's purpose in specific and measurable terms?
I doubt anyone can, really.
That said, if your purpose is vague, you won't know what to do.
I recommend setting both a vague purpose (sometimes called a vision) and a specific, measurable objective.
Vague purpose
To live a life free from societal constraints.
Specific and measurable objective
Earn a side income of XX yen per month and achieve side FIRE.
In some cases, people refer to the vague one as a 'purpose' and the specific, measurable one as a 'goal'.
Resources
Resources refer to all tangible and intangible materials, assets, and human resources that can be used to achieve a 'purpose'.
In other words, anything you can use is a resource. The important thing is that resources don't always look like 'resources'. Things that seem useless at first glance can sometimes shine brilliantly.
As an example of something that shone brilliantly, look at UberEats delivery workers.
Before the Uber service was released, no one could have imagined that people nearby would deliver food.
It is a perfect example of finding a way forward in something that seemed useless at first glance.
Money, time, personal connections, and your own experience and knowledgeare probably the resources for your Note activities.
If anyone has a novel idea like the UberEats example, please let me know in secret (lol).
An example of 'strategy' in the context of Note
Yutaro's 'specific and measurable purpose' is 50,000 monthly PV.
Currently, it is around 35,000, and there is no prospect of reaching it yet.
Strategy is thinking about how to use your time, money, and knowledge to bridge this gap of 15,000.
If articles about 'changing jobs' are being viewed often, then spend time gathering information and writing about changing jobs. Or take stock of your past experiences.
Thinking about strategy is just that simple.
(It might be different for the real experts, though)
Repeating the achievement and resetting of purposes is the path to success
Even if you achieve your objective, your true purpose (the vague purpose mentioned in this article) may not be realized. Or rather, it almost never is.
But at that point, let's reset the 'specific and measurable objective' once more.
And then, achieve that objective.
If you repeat this, you will be able to get closer to your true purpose little by little!!
Let's work hard and steadily.
