What Parents Can Do to Strengthen a Child's Heart
To help children build emotional strength
As parents, we all wish for our children to live each day with energy and gradually grow, even if just a little. So, what can we do to support that?
When we hear the phrase “strengthen the heart,” it might sound like something special or difficult. But in fact, the hints for nurturing a strong heart are hidden in our everyday lives.
The first thing we should revisit is food. Meals are not just about filling the stomach—they are the essential foundation that supports both the body and the heart. When children consume mostly sweets and processed foods, they may become emotionally unstable or struggle to concentrate. On the other hand, when we make an effort to include seasonal vegetables, fermented foods, and other wholesome ingredients, we may notice that our bodies feel lighter and our moods more positive.
Through daily meals, children learn the importance of taking care of themselves. And that becomes the first step in protecting and strengthening the heart.
To help children develop the ability to reflect on themselves, it’s also vital that adults show how we reflect on ourselves. There are days when we might go easy on ourselves, and other days when we’re too hard on ourselves.
In those moments, modeling a balanced internal dialogue—saying things like “I worked hard today, so I’ll take a break” or “I need to reflect on that and try a new approach tomorrow”—helps children learn how to face their own feelings in a healthy way.
Parents don’t need to be perfect. In fact, it’s the image of parents walking alongside their children, even with uncertainty, that becomes a source of emotional strength for them.
In everyday life, something as simple as choosing seasonal ingredients together and chatting around the dinner table can gently build emotional resilience. Ambition or a growth mindset isn’t something that needs to be forced—it’s something children naturally absorb by observing and imitating.
To everyone—thank you (or great work!) for today!!
