[Fire Defense Equipment Officer] I got the qualification. But there's no work!? The cold reality a liberal arts housewife faced as a 'newbie without a license'

When I received the notification saying 'Passed with 90% on the written exam!', my head wascompletely in the clouds.

'Now I'm a qualified professional who can earn money!'
'I look so cool working on-site smartly between childcare duties!'

I was convinced of my future self, working whenever I wanted using 'Bilme (a spot job app for building maintenance)' that I saw on YouTube.

Reality was not that sweet...
(This might be an unpleasant article for those currently studying for the qualification. However, I wrote this with the thought thatthis is something my past self would have wanted to see.)

1. The shock of Bilme: Is there no place for beginners?

What awaited me when I opened the app with high spirits was a cold reality.

The screen was filled with nothing but'Experienced only' and '◯ or more years of practical experience'labels.
There are surprisingly... no jobs that say 'Beginners welcome'.

When you think about it, it's obvious, right?
Spot jobs are places looking for'people who can act as an immediate asset on-site right now'. There is no way they have time to teach a beginner from scratch on-site.
Therefore, Bilme has a system for providing training and gaining experience.

(Do I have to pay money to earn money...)

At this stage, I was quite depressed about my lack of research.

I realized later that Bilme was originally a place where you should registerafter gaining experience somewhere else.

There was one moreblind spot.

In the case of spot jobs, there are many cases where you have to prepareequipment like helmets and tool belts 'on your own'.

This is by no means a criticism of Bilme, buthaving to pay initial costs when I want to earn moneywas a big hurdle for a housewife like me.

Here, I made a decision.
'...I'll find a company that will teach me from scratch on their own!'

2. Consecutive failures in document screening and the 'biggest blind spot' I overlooked

'1-2 days a week, beginners welcome'
I searched for companies that met these conditions and applied to them one after another.

But I got rejected. It was funny how often I got rejected.
I think I was rejected by 5 or 6 companies just based on my documents.

That's when I finally realized. That there was a 'deficiency' in on-site work that was more fatal than any Fire Defense Equipment Officer qualification.

It wasnot having a 'regular driver's license (including AT-only)'.
I lived in Tokyo and didn't use one, so I hadn't obtained it. Ironically, I do have a moped license (which I don't need).

I was too naive. In short,my resolution regarding on-site work was too low.

On-site work is done as a team. Who drives the company car loaded with heavy equipment? Yes, everyone except me.
This wall of 'no license' stood before me, thicker than any qualification certificate.

Every time I felt like giving up, I would talk to AI Gemini, saying 'I can't find a job at all...', and it would comfort me—that's a secret.

(If you area paper driver, I don't think you'll have trouble getting hired!However, if it's a company where you have to drive a company car, try driving a car once.)

3. The reality of the site: Should a beginner get 'Otsu-4' first?

No, no, I can hear you saying, 'Didn't you talk about studying for the Otsu-6 qualification until last time!?' butif I were to tell my past self, 'Beginners should get Otsu-4 first!'is what I'd say.

I got 'Otsu-6 (fire extinguishers)' first, but actually, what is most valued on-site for beginners and what should be obtained first is 'Otsu-4 (fire alarms)'.

Of course, having Otsu-6 is welcomed, but the way you are treated is completely different.

Because,fire alarms are seriously everywhere!
No matter what site you go to, there is almost always a fire alarm inspection. Fire extinguisher inspections are also done as a set, butthe one that takes overwhelmingly more time is the alarm.Therefore, on-site, everyone divides the inspection work, but if you don't have an Otsu-4 license, the 'things you can do' are extremely limited.

'If I had Otsu-4, I could have been more of an asset...'

For those aiming for qualifications from now on, this'difference in demand on-site'is a reality I definitely want you to know.

There are various ways of thinking about the order of obtaining these qualifications, so it's not like you absolutely must do it this way. However, if you want to work as a'well-paying part-time job'like me, I recommend obtaining 'Otsu-4'.

4. A helping hand: Until I grabbed the 'connection' with just one company

When I was teary-eyed thinking 'Maybe it's impossible...', one company appeared thatpicked me up.
That company handled many properties in the city center and was suffering from a serious labor shortage.

In the interview, there was an atmosphere of 'It's better if you have a license, but...', but I was desperate.

'I will continue to get the qualifications I need for work! I'll do anything!'

As a result of appealing my motivation without caring about appearances with an intensity I wouldn't usually show...

'...If you're that motivated, okay, come on in.'

With those words, my on-site life finally began.
(Sorry... I whispered in my heart that I don't actually have motivation.)

The crucial 'study content' has hidden in the depths of my brain. I'm struggling with long-term mommy brain.

I don't have motivation, but I can't give up on passing.
