My boyfriend, who believed 'you can pass in 10 days,' failed his HazMat exam 😂 | Studying as an adult is really tough after all
"No, seriously, who told you that you could pass in 10 days? 😂"
I got a LINE message from my boyfriend.
"The HazMat exam, it went terrible."
……Oh dear.

It seems my boyfriend failed the Class B Group 4 Hazardous Materials Engineer exam.
My boyfriend, like me, holds a real estate notary license. So, I kind of had this image of him as someone I could study for certification exams with.
But this time, with the HazMat exam, it was a bit different.
For starters, he doesn't even need the license for his job.
"I heard you can pass if you study for about 10 days"
Based on that information, which I have no idea where he got from, he decided to take it 😂
Of course, I think he did want to pass since he was taking it.
But...
He probably didn't take it very seriously.
When I asked, he said
he bought the textbook that's supposedly the best-seller and the workbook that's supposedly the best-seller, but he didn't even finish them.
What he did do was watch Q&A videos on YouTube for about two hours a day during his commute.
And, as expected, the result was a failure.
He said he didn't even understand the very first question, to the point where it was almost traumatic.
So, the 'habit of studying' really does fade away
It's been over ten years since my boyfriend got his real estate license.
During that time, he said he's hardly ever studied for any kind of certification exam.
Listening to him, I suddenly thought.
Could it be that
the "habit of studying" itself had completely disappeared?
It's not a license absolutely required for his job.
There's no deadline like "you'll be in trouble if you don't get it by such-and-such month."
If he fails, he won't lose his job.
In a situation like that, trying to fit "studying" into work and daily life.
This might be harder than I thought.
In fact, even after I heard he was taking the HazMat exam, I saw him reading manga on his phone several times.
...Well, maybe he just wasn't studying while he was with me.
By the way, while my boyfriend was reading manga on his phone, I was doing Q&A practice for the hazardous materials handler exam.
We were both looking at our phones, but doing completely different things 😂
Before I knew it, 'studying adults' had become normal to me.
I realized this after I started using note.
There are many people on note who are studying for certification exams.
People studying while working.
People studying while raising children.
People waking up early to study.
People studying after work.
Reading articles by such people every day,
'Studying for certifications as an adult' had become a matter of course for me before I realized it.
But watching my boyfriend, I thought, 'Huh?'
It's not that studying is normal, but rather, aren't people who incorporate studying into their daily lives actually amazing?I thought.
After all, to make time for studying, you have to stop or reduce something you were doing before.
If you start something, you have to sacrifice something.
That was the case for me when I studied for the real estate notary exam, too.
Waking up early for 30 minutes in the morning.
Studying at night after coming home from work.
Even the YouTube videos I watched were about the real estate exam.
I even sealed away my favorite anime.
And I cut back on my sleep a little, too.
In my case, that's how I made the time.
Just thinking 'I want to study' doesn't increase your time.
If you want to start something,
you need to let go of something you were doing until now.
That's what's necessary.
So, my summer vacation starts today.
Hearing about my boyfriend failing his hazardous materials handler exam,
I thought, 'I need to study properly, too' 😂
I'm taking the HazMat exam in September too.
So, my summer vacation starts today.
……I'm going to take a break from writing on note for a few days.
I'll still go around and read everyone's articles 🤗
But I'm taking a little break from writing my own.
Because, honestly, it takes me an hour or two to write just one note article 💦
I think I'll use that time for studying now.
This isn't the time to be laughing at my boyfriend's failure.
I need to study seriously too.
Let's all do our best this summer vacation.
Since I started using note, I've come to see so many people's 'hard-working sides'.
People challenging themselves with certification exams.
People working hard at their jobs.
People who have started something new.
People who have taken a step toward something they've always wanted to do.
Seeing everyone like that makes me think,
'I can do a little more, too.'
That's why I'm going to step away from note for a little bit this time and focus on studying for my HazMat exam.
Summer vacation.
Let's all do it for the future we envision.
The things you want to do.
The person you want to become.
The things you want to achieve.
For that, let's do one thing we can do today.
Let's do our best together 🌻
