What I realized when “freedom” became difficult
What I think about since becoming a freelancer is that
I no longer have to go to the office at a set time every day,
and the time I spend at home has increased overwhelmingly.
I can work whenever I want.
Even though I thought that,
before I knew it, my meal times were all over the place.
For some reason, I could only focus at night,
I gradually became a night owl,
and waking up in the morning became difficult.
I still managed to wake up because I had to make lunch for my children in the morning, but—
at one point, I suddenly realized.
“Why am I so sleepy, sluggish, and unmotivated every day?”
Looking back,
my daily rhythm had completely fallen apart.
When I first became a freelancer, I was enthusiastic
and enjoying my “freedom”...
but by the time three months had passed,
my happy feelings slowly began to cloud over,
and my time management became vague.
As a result, my head felt foggy, I lacked motivation,
my body felt sluggish, my shoulders were stiff, and my eyes were tired...
My mood swings also became intense.
—The life that was supposed to be free
had, before I knew it, become painful.
🔸 A small step to rebuild my life
Wanting to change that situation,
the first thing I started was“moving my body.”
I took the plunge and started going to the gym.
The trainer kindly taught me how to use the machines,
and I started looking forward to using them.
And above all, for the first time in a while, I broke a sweat,
the fog in my head cleared,
and I felt my mood lighten up.
Next, I became conscious of
“trying to go to places I don't usually go.”
I visited towns and cafes I don't usually go to.
There, I saw scenery and people I had never seen before,
and I felt a sense of excitement
as my “usual world” expanded.
And one more thing.
I tried talking to shop staff and cafe baristas, asking,
“What do you recommend?”
Even with such small conversations,
I felt my heart warm up
by connecting with people.
🔸 Mind and body are connected
Through this experience, I felt once again that
the mind and body are connected.
A disruption in your daily rhythm
is actually a sign of a “disruption in the mind.”
Trying to fix only one of them
doesn't work well.
By moving your body, your mind becomes energized,
and when your mind is in order, your life naturally falls into place.
I believe that freedom as a freelancer
is not “the freedom to spend time lazily,”
but “the freedom to create time for yourself to cherish yourself.”
Finding your own rhythm.
I feel that is the first step
to working and living comfortably.
Freedom is not about spoiling yourself,
but about cultivating the power to treat yourself with care.
I am currently working as a therapist,
encouraging awareness of the “mind-body connection”
and helping people live in their own way.
