Disbudding.

Lovely flowers.

White and soft,

I can't help but gaze at them.

But I must pick these flowers.

To help the other strawberries thrive.

To ensure the strawberry plants aren't overtaxed.

And to make harvesting easier.

I don't know if it's the right thing to do.

But every year when this season arrives,

I pause in the same way,

And reach out my hand in the same way.

The feeling that they are cute,

And the decision to pick them,

Exist at the same time.

Agriculture is,

not just about "growing",

but also about "choosing".

You cannot keep everything,

and you cannot save everything.

That is precisely why,

I think about which ones to keep,

every time I am in the field.

These flowers, too,

are one of those things.
