"Because you think that way, that's how it becomes" - What the movie 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas' taught me -
Hello everyone🐈️
"What you think becomes reality."
Have you ever heard those words somewhere?
Today, I would like to think about this "power of thought" through a certain line from the movie 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas'.
- Story Synopsis -
Haruki Shiga, a high school student, accidentally finds a diary written by his classmate, Sakura Yamauchi, who is suffering from a serious pancreatic illness.
He reads the diary and learns that she has only a short time left to live. Haruki Shiga eventually grows up and becomes a teacher at his alma mater. The story is a poignant love story that unfolds as Shiga remembers his days with Sakura in the school library.
There was a line like this
It might not be a very prominent scene, but there is a line that has stayed in my heart ever since.
In the first half of the movie, there is a scene where the protagonist, Haruki Shiga, is absent from school and is in the hospital.
There, they strike up a conversation after he accidentally finds the heroine Sakura Yamauchi's diary, the "Living with Dying" journal.
The exchange that takes place there was impressive.
Sakura"Why are you here?"
Haruki: "I had surgery for appendicitis..."
Sakura: "Oh, come to think of it, you've been absent lately, haven't you?"
Haruki: "You noticed!?"
Sakura: "Of course, we're classmates."
Haruki: "No one knows. About a plain classmate like me..."
Sakura: "Because you think that way, that's how it becomes. Mr. Plain Classmate."
The last line Sakura said.
This one line, "Because you think that way, that's how it becomes," remains in my heart.
Our assumptions and self-image create our reality.
That wasn't just a joke-filled line.
Sakura was living her life as positively and as fully as she could, even while knowing she had a serious illness and that her life would not be long.
That is perhaps why she realized it.
"How you think about yourself" changes your life.
How you view yourself and the world.
Depending on that, reality changes.
I felt that her words were quietly teaching me that invisible truth.
