Miro's Strongest Battle - 2025 Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum Edition - Second Half

Continuing from the previous unofficial Miro's Strongest Battle, starting from 2nd place.

2nd Place: The Sun Eater - 62 "Painting" 1949

This one is a mysterious painting with no information provided, even from the title. The red circle on the canvas is likely the sun, which is depicted in a common style in Miro's works. What is this entity that fills the canvas in front of the blue sky and radiates such a strange atmosphere! If you interpret the scale literally, it is a humanoid creature larger than the sun. It has a brown profile with three wild hairs and eyes painted completely black. Looking at it that way, it also looks like a vertically long face with its mouth wide open. Is it a powerful entity capable of eating the sun!? It also starts to look like it is just screaming in despair in front of the sun, but either way, the wildness of these hairs and the intensity of this entity and the painter's power come through. It is quite strong!

And now, for the unofficial Miro's Strongest Battle, the winner is...

The Great King of Clouds - 64 "The Sky Opening Up Gives Us Hope" (Le Ciel entrebâillé nous rend l'espoir) 1954

This one is the strongest among the Miro works gathered this time. Even in the exhibition hall, it radiates a unique atmosphere with its white figures on a black background. You can tell from the title that it depicts a fairly large landscape. It is not certain whether the entity with the white body and face is the hope seen through the clouds, or if it is the cloud itself covering up hope, but either way, it is strong.

The factor that allowed it to beat out the 2nd place Sun Eater for 1st place is, after all, the white handprints scattered across the canvas. This is an ability that the 3rd place Witch of the Night Sky also used, and this Great King of Clouds is clearly a superior version. This is because, in addition to the handprints, all sorts of expressions such as scratches and swirls are applied. And, on the mouth part of the Great King's face, a large X is drawn with strong red lines. Is it saying something violent, or was its mouth sealed because it was too strong! When the clouds increase and it regains its full power, it will likely become an overwhelming presence that could even affect our side! It is the undisputed 1st place!

Extra Edition: Flying Barca - 97 "Barça FC Barcelona 75th Anniversary" 1974

I made this an extra edition because it is a poster and has a different kind of strength. The jet-black creature flying through the sky with a smile is incredibly strong because it contains the F.C.B. emblem (embroidery), carrying the passion and excitement of the Spanish people on its back. Its eyes are also the same cosmic eyes as the 3rd place Witch of the Night Sky, and they are incredibly bloodshot. And there is a tail-like line coming from its rear, connecting to the stars. It also has power connected to the universe, so it is quite strong—it seems much stronger than the Great King of Clouds. 1974 was the year Miro turned 81, and I feel tremendous power in the fact that he could paint such a powerful canvas at that age!
