Tanabata Poem: 'Star Meeting'
Only the things that cannot be seen
illuminate the silence of the night.
The name of the untouchable light
I whispered softly.
The sound of wings broken in the starlight,
someone's dream wanders through the void.
The wish has yet to take shape,
still swaying, stifling its voice.
A voice woven into the rift of time,
what I hear is
a memory of the heart, or perhaps a prayer?
Even before we met,
you were already within me.
Tracing an orbit once a year,
the stars pretend to cross paths.
In the glimmer of their fading,
I saw your reflection.
In a place where wishes cannot reach,
I am still
watching you.
Light is always
a flickering flame before the wind.
Even so,
I light it,
feeling that beyond this silent darkness,
you are there.
Your loneliness that does not know me,
my thirst that does not know you.
Staring at each other without ever crossing,
two nights overlap.
Why
did I not call out to you that night?
Why
did I not reach out my hand in that moment?
Even if I wish for it now,
the stars will not return.
Even so,
I wanted the light.
I wanted the light that is you.
Yet the stars knew,
of the soul that yearns while remaining untouchable.
That a fleeting intersection
surpasses eternity.
Oh, you,
even if you do not know me,
this night
exists for me to think of you.
'It is fine if you forget,
but
I could not help but call your name.
This was neither a prayer
nor a dream.
It was hope itself.'
The night ends.
Only the silence
remains for certain,
as I gaze at the shimmering stars.
