From Kierkegaard's Diary
"...What I lack is to be clear in my own mind about what I must do.
It is not a question of what I must know. It is a matter of understanding my mission.
It is important to know what God (the self that exists within me *) truly wills for me to do.
It is necessary to discover a truth that is truth for me, to discover 'the idea for which I am willing to live and die.'
What use would it be to me to find so-called objective truth?
What use would it be to me if I could explain the meaning of life or clarify every phenomenon in this world, if it held no meaning for me personally or for my own life?
What use would it be to me if I could construct a world through essays and philosophy, only to find that I do not live in that world, but merely present it for others to view?"
It seems that such things are written in Kierkegaard's diary.
This is likely only a tiny fraction of his vast collection of diaries.
This part about 'the idea for which I am willing to live and die' (is 'idea' translated as 'ideal'?) cuts deeply into my heart.
Yes, it would be good if one could go through life lightly with such things in mind.
