No.976 Strong discomfort with "that advice"
"Try to find the good in others."
I have felt a strong sense of discomfort with this phrase for a long time.
How should I put it? I feel like I'm being casually pacified...
From my perspective, the people who say this are likelyassuming a belief in the inherent goodness of people.
However, human relationships are not built on such a simple mechanism.
In reality, there are many people who act in ways that are very hard to understand, and even if you try to process your thoughts to encourage understanding, you quickly reach a limit.
This is because there isa definite set of valuesthere. For example, feeling resentment toward someone who only complains.
When I dig deeper into that emotion...
■ Being forced into the role of a parent to appease the other person
↓
■ Wanting to be equal with others rather than in a hierarchy
↓
■ That is established as my own ethical standard
In other words, it is based on"respect."This is proof of being mentally autonomous, and it is natural to feel resentment.
Therefore,
you don't have to force yourself to find the good in them. It's a waste of time and energy, you can generally imagine what will happen even if you try to compromise, and above all, it's meaningless.
This is the optimal solution I have reached as an individual.
I, too, received the same advice from a boss at a previous workplace.
Thinking about it now, that boss was also the type who believed in the inherent goodness of people, or perhaps it was almost blind faith.
I had been unable to identify the true nature of this discomfort for a long time, but
now that I have finally clarified it, I am creating this in the heat of the moment.
Having continued my studies in philosophy and other areas, including my experiences at that time, I am currently convincing myself that I may have deepened my self-understanding.
