My note becomes a game. To make the future something to look forward to, even just a little.
Don't you feel like you could do anything if it were something where you could feel the effects immediately, was easy to continue, and was fun?
Hello! I'm Rakutano, whose motto is 'Easy and Fun'!!
Whenever there was something in life that I absolutely had to do, I was the type to run away with all my might!! I ran and ran away from studying, entrance exams, and work!
Because it's boring (lol)!
That's selfish, isn't it.
But it's strange how games, for example, keep us going so much.
'I wish everything could be like a game...'
As a middle schooler, I always thought this.
But now I think that if I break down 'why games are fun?' and connect those elements even a little bit to the things I want to run away from, maybe it could become fun!!
Why are games fun???
That's obvious. Because it's a game. The end.
My brain wants to end it there, but I'm going to write about it.
1. Easy to start
Studying, work, and side hustles have an image of not progressing unless you move your body and go at it hard. Or rather, that's actually the case.
Because that is burned into my brain, it's hard to start.
But games can be started with a 'beep' of the power button, and you can play on a Switch while lying down. Moving your fingertips is enough.
2. Story, BGM, worldview, characters, battles, objectives
Games that have these six things firmly in place are god-tier games.
RPG games like Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Tales.
There is also a wide variety of types, from shooting to rhythm games and simulations.
In that regard, things like studying don't have these (lol).
3. Can be shared with others
Games include those you play alone, like RPGs, and those you play with everyone, like Monster Hunter.
You fight against other players, fight together, and get excited with people who play the same game.
Studying, side hustles, and work are basically competitions. That might be fine if it lifts your spirits, but I only ever feel like I'm wearing myself down.
Generally, these are the reasons why games are fun.
Next, let's apply these reasons to boring work. In my case, that would be note.
Currently, I don't think note is boring at all, but if I were my middle-school self, I would think it's deathly boring, so I'm aiming for that.
Lowering the hurdle to make it easier to start
I mostly write note on my computer. I can write on my smartphone, but the app is incredibly difficult to use.
To make it as easy as possible, I don't even press the power button on my computer.
It's set to open automatically at a fixed time, and furthermore!! The note editing screen opens automatically.
Also, even though I have it set to full screen when it opens, it doesn't always work well, which is a flaw.
Well, even with a Switch, if it's not in sleep mode, you have to press the power button, tap the game icon, and wait for it to launch.
So, if you can do at least this much, it becomes incredibly easy to start note.
For things like studying, there are countless measures you can take, like leaving your notebook open on your desk.
Adding the 6 elements to what you need to do
Story, BGM, worldview, characters, battle, purpose
I said earlier that games with these elements are god-tier games, but
If these are in note, then note is a god-tier game.
For now, the "story." I have no choice but to create it myself...
Actually, it makes me excited!! That said, it's meaningless if the "purpose" isn't solid.
Regarding the "purpose," in Dragon Quest terms, it would be defeating the Demon King.
For that, the "battles," "worldview," and "characters" all connect.
"BGM" is relatively secondary. I'd like to say that, but it's like the atmosphere in a note. It's similar to the worldview, but somehow important.
The sound and feel of the words, the reading speed, etc.—the BGM in a note differs from person to person.
When you try to turn a note into a game, these six elements become complexly intertwined.
Being able to share with others is note's greatest strength.
The hurdle to start a note is also low. Extremely low.
You don't need to mess around with settings and decorations like a blog, and you aren't forced to memorize things or do tasks like with work, entrance exams, or studying.
However, being too free is also a problem.
Games have set tasks. Even if they are called open-world, there is definitely a to-do list.
Most people don't have those to-do lists or a "purpose." Or to put it another way, strong things like dreams, ambitions, or aspirations.
In a sense, thinking of it as studying and taking exams to get into a major company might be much more game-like.
But just watching notes is interesting.
In game terms, it's like the feeling of watching a game being played by a famous VTuber.
Moreover, you can participate in it. With note.
Sometimes a "purpose" is born naturally just by watching. Often.
By sharing with others, is it like everyone is building the game together?
It's a bit vague, but
In games, it is extremely difficult to enjoy things beyond what the developers have created.
Unless you are a masochistic weirdo who starts doing time attacks, you will usually get bored after about 100 hours.
So, what about notes, studying, and work?
You can quit writing notes whenever you want, but you can't do that with studying or work, right?
That is why, as I was writing this, I thought it would be impossible without the fun of sharing and building things up together, just like in a game.
P.S.: Notes are a game aimed at the future.
I managed to write this in about 30 minutes!! I had decided to write it in that amount of time today.
Also, I wanted to keep what I have to say under 1000 characters! With a soft, essay-like feel! But that is difficult, isn't it?
More than that, being easy to understand is what matters most.
By the way, the reason I want to do this is to make it easier for myself to read later on.
Notes are meant to be written for readers, but the true essence is writing them for your future self.
In terms of this game, if it were Dragon Quest, it would be like being able to line up many feelings of building a town and going on an adventure.
Each of your articles is a 'story'.
And when your future self plays the game called 'note' after a long time,
I am sure it will be incredibly interesting.
Creating is fun, and looking back is fun. I intend to continue writing notes like a game from now on.
