I Can Meet You in the Sounds / [Sounds of Summer] Polar Bear Literature Club
I can hear the sounds of summer.
I gently close my eyes and listen.
The cool, tinkling sound of a wind chime; I wonder if the wind is blowing.
I remember how I used to fan myself just to hear the sound.
The rustling sound of waves and the scent of the sea breeze come back to me.
The lively chorus of cicadas; they are energetic again this year.
I hear the sound of drums from afar. I wonder if there is a festival.
I wonder if there will be food stalls.
The sound of large fireworks, the smell of gunpowder, and the beautiful fireworks themselves come back to the back of my eyelids.
You are standing right next to me.
“How is it, Grandma?
Could you feel the summer?”
When I opened my eyes, I saw the face of my grandchild who had come to visit during summer vacation.
There is a sliced watermelon on the table.
“Yes, thank you.”
Amidst the continuing intense heat,
“I can't seem to enjoy summer anymore,”
I had muttered, and my grandchild gathered the sounds of summer to let me hear them.
Because of the extreme heat, everyone opposes me going out, and I don't have the confidence to endure it either.
The summer heat is tough, but my grandchild comes to see me during summer vacation.
In front of the Buddhist altar are the horse and cow my grandchild made.
I wonder when I will hear the sound of the horse's hooves.
