Fighting an Invisible Enemy
Since the beginning of this year, there have been unauthorized logins to X and Facebook.
I knew my PC email address had leaked from somewhere because spam has been arriving in my spam folder daily for quite a long time.
I immediately changed the passwords for both to something more complex.
I found an unknown foreign phone number had been added to my Facebook without my permission, so I deleted it immediately.
I only created my Facebook account a long time ago at a friend's request and didn't use it much, so I set it so that only friends can see anything.
Then, I received a notification that there was a login to my Instagram from a device other than the one I usually use ( ̄▽ ̄;)
I hurriedly checked the login location and year for Instagram, but the last time I logged in was when I switched to my new smartphone.
Does that mean someone tried to log in unauthorized but failed??
But I keep getting notifications that there were login attempts from different devices even after that.
So, I changed the password, but I still get notifications 💧
That was when I finally understood what was happening.
The account someone was trying to log into was not my real account, but rather,an account that a stranger had created a long time ago using my PC email address and real name (maiden name)...
At first, I thought, maybe I created it myself and forgot? But I always set an icon with some photo immediately and never put my real name on a profile where anyone can see it.
Besides, I post things right away.
So, I didn't create it.
I mean, I was shocked (;´Д`A ```
It was an account with no icon set, almost no followers or following, and no posts, butI had no idea until now that someone else had created an account impersonating meCan you believe it~~
Someone else (the person who knows my email address) must have been trying to log into an account that someone else had created and abandoned.
Since I thought it was my real Instagram, I changed the password, so maybe the person who created it and the person trying to log in unauthorized both lost access, and they were trying to log in by guessing the password?
Once I understood the meaning, I logged into the unknown account and deleted the account itself.
And I also changed my PC email address, which I didn't know I could change, so this should finally end my battle with the invisible enemy.
But changing a PC email address is super tough 💦
Like this note, I have to change the registered email address for every single site.
I shop online quite a bit, and there are sites related to my favorite idols and places where important emails arrive, so it took about two days to change the email addresses for all of them (I can only work on it between finishing work and my husband coming home).
For a moment, I thought about quitting Facebook and Instagram, but if I delete my real account too, it would feel like I, who did nothing wrong, lost or gave in to the enemy.
That is frustrating.
So I decided: I will fight! I will win!!
I always think that people who are cunning must be smart, so they should use that ability in a different direction.
I feel like it's a waste of ability and time.
