The Lie of Digital Detox: Rebooting the 'Structure of Senses' Instead of 'Blocking'
For the first time in a while, I wrote an article that isn't about the Four Heavenly Kings of the Inhuman.
I hope this serves as a reference for your rest over the weekend.
As usual, I wrote this because a follower, Toi-san, who has no face, asked me to 'write an article about digital detox'.
'Oh, I don't have my smartphone.'
A subtle fear that runs through you at that moment.
The reflex of your right hand tapping your pocket unconsciously.
...How pathetic.
Even as I think that, my fingertips wander, seeking the next 'notification'.
How much of our day are we currently lending to the 'stories of others' on the other side of the screen?
News from the other side of the globe with a single fingertip.
Someone's glamorous daily life with a single swipe.
We were under the illusion that we had gained omnipotent power.
However, as the price for that,
have we forgotten somewhere the 'weight' of pressing our feet against the ground, or
the 'friction sound' of our own lungs inhaling air?
Most of the 'digital detox' advice overflowing in the streets is nothing more than 'training in endurance'.
'Put your smartphone in a box.'
'Uninstall your social media.'
Such brute-force blocking may provide temporary relief, but it does not lead to a fundamental solution.
This is because our 'inner structure of senses' remains paralyzed.
Today, this is not a story about ordinary digital abstinence.
Your brain, gut, and skin.
Rebooting the trinity system,
it is a story of quiet tuning to regain a 'body that resonates with the world'.
1. 'Brain congestion' is silencing your gut and skin.
We are calmly bathing in more information from the device in our palms than humans of the past received in their entire lifetimes.
To put it mildly, it is an abnormal situation.
For the brain, this is like an 'endless traffic jam'.
Originally, our brains have a circuit called the 'Default Mode Network (DMN)'.
It is in the empty time when we are doing nothing that
information is organized and our own stories are rewoven.
It is, so to speak, the 'autophagy' of the spirit.
However, the habit of slipping a smartphone into the few seconds spent waiting for an escalator.
The brief time waiting for a traffic light.
The habit of slipping a smartphone into these moments thoroughly destroys this DMN.
The brain is forced to run at full capacity, overheats, and
eventually loses the processing power to handle 'subtle sensations'.
Then, the distortion of the structure spreads to the entire body.
First, brain fatigue hits the 'gut' directly through the nerves.
The gut is the 'second brain' where hundreds of millions of nerve cells are concentrated.
If the brain is congested, the gut also becomes stiff and silent.
'I feel somewhat heavy in my stomach' or 'I have no appetite.'
That is often not because of the food, but a 'structural aftermath' of brain fatigue caused by digital devices.
Furthermore, this influence extends to the 'skin'.
The skin is the 'third brain' that separates the outer world from the inner world.
When the brain becomes hypersensitive and the gut screams,
the skin's barrier function wavers,
and it begins to process subtle stimuli from the outside world as 'unpleasant noise'.
When your skin is irritated, your mood also sinks.
That is not just in your head.
It is proof that the ecosystem of the brain, gut, and skin
is drowning in a sea of information and short-circuiting in a chain reaction.
2. Stop 'blocking.' What is needed is a tuning that restores 'resonance' with the world.
So, what should we do?
What I want to propose is not 'prohibition' but 'tuning'.
Instead of making blocking an end in itself,
we must maximize the 'resolution' of our numbed senses.
To do that, first, we must carefully re-examine the 'structure' that is our own body.
Practice: 3 Minutes of 'Observation of Nothingness'
There is no need to stop the clock.
Just for three minutes.
Take your smartphone out of your field of vision and close your eyes.
Shift your consciousness from 'external information'
to the 'texture of your own inner self'.
The sound of a distant ventilation fan entering through your ears.
The faint scent of paper brushing past your nose.
And above all,
try to become aware of the 'weight of your own bones'.
When we are immersed in digital, we are 'ghosts detached from our bodies'.
Our consciousness is constantly being dragged forward.
Forcefully return it to your own 'center'.
'Oh, my heart is beating right now.'
Just by listening to that fact, the congestion in your brain will begin to quietly unravel.
Practice: Decoding Tactile Sensation
No matter where you stroke a smartphone screen, it is the same,
a cold, inorganic, flat piece of glass.
This 'overly uniform stimulus' has put our wild nature to sleep.
That is precisely why we must deliberately hammer different 'textures' into the brain.
The coldness of water when you wash your face in the morning.
The feel of the rough bottom of a ceramic cup.
The resistance of the fibers of the shirt you are wearing.
The 'concrete resolution' entering through the skin
quietly cools down the brain
that has been scorched by 'abstract digital noise'.
It is a 'reconciliation with the world' through the body, without the need for words.
3. Digital is not an enemy. It is a mirror that reflects your 'inner universe'.
I don't want you to misunderstand,
I have no intention of saying 'let's go back to the old way of life'.
In fact, it is the opposite.
To me, technology is an 'accomplice' for deepening self-understanding and embodying a unique 'structure'.
There is no good or evil in the device itself.
It is merely a mirror that reflects our 'inner universe (structure)'.
When the body is in tune and the senses are sharpened,
digital becomes the strongest wing to expand your thinking.
However, if the foundational body is experiencing a system down,
the mirror will only amplify your confusion and ugliness.
There is a concept called 'Kotodama' (the spirit of words).
The words we utter have the power to move physical reality.
This is no exception in the digital space.
Words released from the core of a well-aligned body.
Not hollow words seeking validation,
but words spun to embody your own structural beauty.
Through the 'amplifier' that is digital,
they become 'vibrations' that spread beautiful ripples throughout the world.
In conclusion: Structural beauty reboots from within the silence.
After finishing this article,
please do not open the next tab immediately.
Just for a moment.
Look away from the screen and turn your consciousness to the 'blank space' that surrounds you right now.
The temperature of the air brushing against your skin.
The structure of your lungs expanding with every breath.
The essence of a digital detox is
not about throwing something away, but
updating the OS of your consciousness to realize that 'overwhelming information = yourself' is here right now.
Your body, the most sophisticated system in the universe.
Please, believe in that structural beauty.
The moment you close the screen,
the story of the real 'you' reboots.

Thank you for reading until the end!
I am also creating articles about the Four Heavenly Kings of the Non-Human, and since it is fun, it is quite difficult to balance the updates.
For me, the Four Heavenly Kings of the Non-Human and serious analytical articles are two sides of the same coin, so I want to continue balancing them well.
If there are any themes you would like me to cover or things you want the Four Heavenly Kings to do, please feel free to write them in the comments section!
