Being Rolled in a Futon, and a Night Where I Didn't Have to Move
When work ended, I got into my car as usual and headed to the same place.
There, a man was waiting.
It was Moto-kun.
We meet up at a parking lot along the way.
It was our usual routine.
"What should we do for dinner?"
As if it were a given, we went to the supermarket together.
We bought some random side dishes.
And then, the sweet bread rolls Moto-kun likes.
A chocolate pie.
"Here, sugar!"
"Because things can't start without this, right?"
It was mostly just snacks.
We headed to Moto-kun's house while talking about nothing in particular.
That was our usual routine.
When we arrived at the house,
without even changing my clothes,
I dove straight into the futon.
"I'm so tired."
"I'm getting sleepy."
"I love the futon."
Saying that,
I wrapped myself in the futon and stopped moving.
Moto-kun laughed with an exasperated look on his face.
"Hey, go to work."
"Ugh, just five more minutes."
I just
burrowed even deeper into the futon.
Then Moto-kun
rolled me up in the futon like a sushi roll.
"Whoa!"
"I'm being shipped out!"
I shouted as I was rolled up in the futon.
He messed up my hair,
and then rolled me up even tighter in the futon.
I just
burrowed into the futon like a turtle,
"I'm escaping now..."
I said, and stopped moving.
Then this time,
Moto-kun flopped down on top of me with a thud.
"Heavy!!"
"I'm being crushed!!"
While saying things like that,
we were both laughing hysterically.
It wasn't
a special day.
It was just a normal night.
The sound of the microwave spinning.
The smell of convenience store side dishes.
A messy futon.
A tired body.
In the midst of that,
I was just rolling around.
────
I have always been
a person who gets depressed easily.
Whenever something happened,
"What should I do?"
"Maybe it was my fault."
I would dwell on it.
Even in front of Moto-kun,
I would get depressed without caring.
But he
wouldn't get serious and ask, "Are you okay?"
When I talked about my worries,
for some reason, he would laugh out loud.
It didn't feel like he was making fun of me.
He would just
laugh as if to say, "That's funny, you know."
At first, I thought,
"Why are you laughing?"
But
I would end up laughing along with him.
While laughing,
"Wait, what was I so worried about again?"
I would think.
That happened many times.
────
I was quite defenseless when I was with Moto-kun.
I slept when I was sleepy.
I rolled around when I was tired.
I got depressed when I was depressed.
I cried if I wanted to cry.
There was little sense of me trying hard
to be liked.
The people I had dated until then
were all kind people.
But Moto-kun was a little different.
He wasn't too kind.
He was a little sloppy,
he laughed a little,
and he left me alone a little.
But
that atmosphere was strangely comfortable.
Only when I was with him
did I feel like I didn't have to prove anything.
It was a time when it was okay
to relax my shoulders and just roll around while tired.
I didn't have to move.
I didn't have to be useful.
Even if I was burrowed in the futon,
it was okay for me to be there.
That was
one of the few times in my life
when I felt, "It's okay to just be me."
