After Rethinking My Interior, Mito Komon Remained. [Strictly Personal] -Mito Komon Calendar Production Diary-
I decided to try making one.
It doesn't need to be that stylish.
Whether it's correct in terms of interior design is probably not the point.
"When I look at this, my nerves unwind."
That alone makes it a perfect calendar.
I looked for next year's calendar, but I couldn't find one that felt just right for me now. So, I decided to make one.
Placing something in my life that offers comfort which cannot be explained by logic.
The theme running through the whole thing is
"What on earth am I being shown?" a sense of mild bewilderment.
That bewilderment stops the noise of daily life for a moment.
That's why it's healing. Logic comes later.
In that case, there is only one theme.
It is the "Mito Komon" I love so dearly.
Honestly, it will probably be noise in my life. It will likely take me further away from a stylish-looking room. But that is exactly what's good about it.
As my source of comfort, it's perfect. It's fun to place something strange and utterly useless in my life.
I haven't really made it public that I love Mito Komon, but when I was a child, I watched the reruns like crazy. The Mito Komon time starting in the evening was, it's no exaggeration to say, the most important time for me as an elementary school student.
It was such a precious time.
I still don't understand why my homeroom teacher got mad at me when I bought an inro, a wooden sword, and a Japanese flag headband on a school trip and wore it on my head. ...No, actually, I guess it was a bit too much. Haha.
Deciding the theme for each month
First, I decided to think of themes for the 12 months.
The initial idea was that January through December would form a Mito Komon story. December would be the group of the Lord leaving town.
That would mean November would involve bringing out the Inro and defeating evil, that kind of flow.
This is the structure of Mito Komon: a story where you can safely predict what happens even if you watch it casually.
The viewer's brain knows that "they'll win in the end anyway."
The question arose: is this suitable for a calendar?
Life is not that simple.
It is not a world of poetic justice where evil is always punished.
Good and evil, as the order of the world,
are always mixed and overlapping...
This world is probably something that cannot be defined by a dualism of good or bad.
There might be times when I think a calendar like that would be nice, but for me right now, it didn't feel like the optimal solution.
You don't have to try to wrap it up neatly.
You don't have to let it go stylishly.
"What on earth am I being shown?"A slight sense of confusion is important, and it's a major axis.
Anyway, no matter what, if I were to ask what kind of calendar would make me"age↗︎"it would be thatI want to see the unique characters of Mito Komon every monthI started to think.
"Bringing comfort through characters while also providing confusion"
"My nerves unravel when I look at this"I decided on a theme for each month based on this.
Themes for each of the 12 months
January
The Inro and the opening screen. Big and quiet. Foreshadowing the beginning of the year. The Aoi-no-Gomon (Hollyhock Crest) and the "Mito Komon" text from the opening of each part.

February
The group. The start of the journey. With the wish that it will be a good year.

March
Suke-san. Various expressions of a handsome man. A balancer for a season that is easily swayed.

April
Kaku-san. I'm making it a Goro Ibuki festival, whom I love. I'm putting a stubborn man at the start of the year to give my body a wake-up call.

May
Hachibei. A season when food is delicious. Since there's Golden Week, I'll loosen things up a bit and relax here.

June
For the humid month, a Kazaguruma no Yashichi special. Stylish and sharp. I'll be comforted by my favorite Yashichi during my birthday month, when things tend to feel unstable.

July
A month full of the Lord. July is the birth month of Mito Mitsukuni. (Born 7/11)

August
Bathing scenes. The long-awaited month. I'm collecting bathing scenes not just of Ogin, but of various characters.

September
The girl power of Kagerou Ogin and Princess Aya. With the hope of starting the new school term on a high, cute note.

October
The 'all-star villain' overkill slot. Halloween = the inversion of order. Without the corrupt officials and evil merchants, Mito Komon wouldn't work.

Please, read the 'Wa' page of the Mito Komon University (HP) as well. Highly recommended.
November
Bringing a winter mood with the cool Tobizaru. Classy and stylish.

If I could become any cast member of Mito Komon, I would choose Tsuge no Tobizaru.
December
Closing out the year with the winter Nishiyama-so and the lyrics of 'Aa Jinsei ni Namida Ari'. Walking toward 2027, treading my own path.

What will I be thinking when I look at these lyrics at the end of 2026?
In Conclusion
'What on earth am I being shown here?'
A calendar designed to cause that kind of minor accident 12 times.
I found the images online or on Pinterest, or took photos of the TV screen with my phone's camera.
Since it's strictly personal and for my own enjoyment, I prioritized this vibe over high resolution. In fact, the grainy image quality feels retro and very 'Komon-sama-like,' which makes me happy and gets me quite excited. (I was shocked to find I had about 230 photos and materials when I organized them for this calendar production. The vast number of Mito Komon materials I collected night after night are dear to me.)
While making it seriously, I was also made to think 'What on earth am I making?' several times. This was also good.
I realized that what I wanted wasn't a 'beautiful calendar,' but
a monthly display of foreign objects to relax my heart.
Making a calendar is something I've always wanted to try.
I never dreamed it would end up being Mito Komon.
Many things happened, I stumbled many times,
but 2025 was a year where I managed to get back up and survive each time.
Thanks to this calendar,
my vibes are up for the New Year,
and I feel like I can say goodbye to 2025 on a good note✌️
2025, thank you very much👋 Goodbye~
