A Prescription for When You're Stuck for Note Ideas - It's Okay to Publish Even If It's Unfinished or a Failure -
First, there is a fellow noter to whom I would like to express my gratitude unilaterally.
The making-of article for my icon creation (Part 2) that I wrote a little while ago has become a precious piece that feels like a milestone in my future noter activities.
Actually, while creating this making-of, I was secretly using Mochizuki-san's article as a reference while keeping it in mind.
This is an article where Mochizuki-san reports on making a Daiso 'Petit Block - Hamster'.
Mochizuki-san casually slips expressions that hit the 'sweet spot' of the reader into the article.
Right after starting the creation, not discouraged by the mishap of simply making a mistake on the very first step, the fact that they continued the report anyway was the ultimate 'Like' point for me.
Mochizuki-san's own internal conflict is also woven into the article. Thank you for continuing to write on Note despite that.
Please let me continue to support you from the shadows as a 'favorite noter'...! Please excuse this sudden introduction. ๐โโ๏ธ
Here is the making-of for the icon creation (Part 2), which served as a milestone for Chapter 1.
I even snuck in some comments about the rejected drafts, and it was fun to write even while I was in the process. ๐
From here on, I will summarize the way of thinking I usually use when I'm stuck for Note ideas.
I hope this will be helpful to someone.
A Prescription for When You're Stuck for Note Ideas
1. Even if it's not finished, or even if it's a failure, try making it into an article
I sometimes write articles as 'publishing from the thought process stage.' For example, in the first part of my icon creation article.
I wrote about the inner feelings of 'feeling a hurdle to drawing an icon'.
At that time, I hadn't even taken out my iPad to draw.
You shouldn't show it to the public until it's 'finished'.
At first glance, this might seem like a normal way of thinking, but I've come to think that this might actually be a 'super perfectionist' mindset.
If you 'fail', scrap it.
This is also something we tend to choose. However, 'failure' sometimes has the power to attract people. It is the power called 'humor' or 'empathy'.The article I introduced earlier possesses exactly this charm.
The following is an article I wrote by re-evaluating the reality of 'failing to photograph iridescent clouds' in a positive light.
As a result, it became one of my most important articles, leading to encounters with wonderful noters and ideas for my icon.
2. Try writing exactly what is on your mind right now
For example, if you are simply stuck for ideas, write an article about the fact that 'I'm stuck for ideas and don't know what to write'.
It's the image of writing down the internal conversation or monologue that is currently in your head just as it is.
Then, what happens? In the town of Note, there are many noters who 'have the same worries'.
For those people, your honest thoughts might strike a chord, making them feel 'I'm not the only one'.
Also, if you have thoughts like 'I want to quit Note,' rather than keeping them bottled up inside without anyone knowing, exposing them in an article is one option.
You might have secret fans, and they might be surprised, thinking, 'You were thinking that!?'
I'll leave this article I wrote a little while ago here as part of the prescription series.
3. Try writing an article about your impressions and realizations from reading other noters' articles
I often do this too. Noters' articles contain many 'perspectives' that I wouldn't have on my own.
Of course, an impression article about being moved by reading an article is fine, and as an example, I think a summary article about 'I was drawn to this title!' is also a good idea.
Also, it's wonderful to make themes out of realizations like,
'Oh, there's this way of thinking too!'
'This way of writing is also an option!'
'This genre exists too!'
The world of note is infinitely free, and there are still unknown worlds and possibilities waiting to be discovered.
'If you're stuck on what to write, try reading.'
Beyond that, you might encounter fresh themes or keywords that will shatter your rigid preconceptions and fixed ideas!
How was it?
Thanks to this mindset, I haven't felt like I've run out of ideas so far.
If you're struggling with running out of ideas, it doesn't mean your creativity is lacking; it might just mean you're leaning too much into 'perfectionism'.
Sometimes, just letting yourself go and leaning into the free-spirited world of note might lead to 'some kind of breakthrough'!๐ฅณ
