The moments that improve your QOL might be when you lightly choose 'what your heart desires' over 'knowledge and information in your head'
Today's article begins with a very small morning episode.
I woke up early, finished my chores, and since I was working from home today, I had some time and thought, 'Maybe I'll write a note,' when I suddenly noticed that the nail on my left middle finger was slightly chipped.
For as long as I can remember, I had decided that the best time to cut my nails was after a bath.
I don't remember the source, but I felt that cutting them while they were moisturized put less strain on the nails.
They weren't that long, so I thought I might just cut them tonight.
However, I kept feeling bothered by the chipped nail.
It wasn't exactly unpleasant, but it was like a small 'fuzz' had been born in the corner of my mind.
Well, it wasn't a rule I followed that strictly, and I had the time...
I thought, 'I'll just cut them!' and after I quickly finished, I felt so refreshed 🥳
Even with such small things, your QOL really goes up, doesn't it!
Once I got the idea that I'd write an article like this today, I thought, 'Since I'm writing about it, I should reconfirm the timing for cutting nails!' and when I searched for it, new facts were discovered one after another...!!
I learned a lot, so I'll summarize it briefly.
1. The theory that cutting nails after a bath is a no-go (First time hearing this!!)
Nails that have absorbed water and expanded are soft and easy to cut, but they return to their original size over time. In other words, if you cut them while they are expanded, you might cut them too short, leading to ingrown nails.
2. The theory that after a bath is actually the best timing (I felt a little relieved)
After a bath, your nails are soft and easy to cut, so if you eliminate the risk of cutting them too short, it becomes the best time to cut your nails.
3. It is better to avoid cutting nails before a bath (First time hearing this!)
There are two reasons.
One is that if you cut your nails too short or cause a wound, there is a possibility of infection from bacteria in the bathroom.
The other is that the sharp parts left after cutting your nails could scratch your scalp while shampooing.
4. The reason why people say 'you shouldn't cut your nails at night'
Omitted
In the past, lights were dim, and there were no nail clippers like we have today, so people used blades like small knives as a substitute.
If you tried to cut your nails in the dark at night, your hand might slip and you could get injured, so it was better not to.
Also, if you were unlucky, you could die.
In other words, you might die before your parents and not be able to see them on their deathbed.
This is based on that kind of thinking.
I knew about point 4, but before I knew the reason, I had been told it since I was a child, so I followed it somewhat, and I remember feeling a little guilty when I cut my nails at night. 😓
In any case, by following my heart honestly and writing this article, I was able to gain a new perspective and material for an article.
The knowledge that is originally in our heads might be overwritten by misunderstandings, actually be a biased opinion, or be outdated information, so it might not be as reliable as we think.
If that's the case, then perhaps
'what your heart desires' > 'knowledge and information in your head'
I thought it might be okay to increase the opportunities to choose that instead.
It's interesting how even trivial daily episodes can lead to new discoveries when you dig deeper.
Thank you for reading 🥳
