Speaking is healing. Listening is support. —— What is active listening??
Hello, I am "Yumiko the Listener," and I have launched the "Tokachi Active Listening Room" in the Tokachi region of Hokkaido.
It is rainy in Tokachi today ☂️
The temperature is around 26°C.
Actually, Tokachi is one of the hotter regions in Hokkaido during the summer, so it reached nearly 39°C a little while ago and even made national news, but on cloudy or rainy days, the temperature stays around this level.
Seeing the news about temperatures exceeding 40°C across the country, I think it must be impossible for us Hokkaido residents, but it must surely be a difficult season for those who have lived there for a long time as well.
And for regions experiencing heavy rain, I hope the rain stops at an appropriate point, as I also want the water shortages to be resolved.
Thank you for reading my self-introduction article!
Thank you so much for all the "likes" and follows on the self-introduction article I posted on note for the first time yesterday!
Currently, follow-backs are temporarily restricted, but I will definitely return them as soon as things settle down.
📝 Yesterday's post is here:
Self-introduction: Active listening that is possible precisely because it is this place. A small, small "place to speak" started in Tokachi, Hokkaido

"But what do you actually do in active listening?"
The answer to this question is simply this.
"Listening with all my heart for the full duration"
It is not just "hearing" what is said, but "listening" with all one's heart. That is "active listening"... is that too vague?
"I just wanted someone to listen." Have you ever had that experience?
In your life so far, have you ever had the experience of...
"Feeling lighter just because someone listened to me"
"I didn't need an answer. I just wanted someone to listen"
Have you ever had such an experience?
For me personally, through divorce, remarriage, fertility treatment, single parenting, returning to the workforce, and running a company...
Amidst many crossroads and conflicts, there were many, many moments when I thought, "I just want someone to listen to me."
However, people who say, "It's okay to talk," or "I'm listening properly," are surprisingly few.
Before "solving," there is "being together"
Active listening is not about giving advice or solving problems.
It is simply about being there for the other person's words and silence at their own pace.
I believe that just by doing that, a person's heart can gradually settle, and they can prepare to move forward.
It is okay for a place like this to exist
The "Tokachi Active Listening Room" is not a place that only special people come to.
People who want to organize their daily worries.
People who want to talk about feelings they couldn't tell anyone else.
People who want to realize the answers within themselves while talking.
I want this to be a place where such people can
feel safe being their true selves
, that is what I believe.
“Listening” is a more powerful and gentle act than you might think.
Having someone who truly receives another person's voice will surely become a support for someone.
Because I know that better than anyone.
Moving forward, with the themes of “listening” and “living”
On this note, I would like to continue writing about “active listening” and “living true to oneself,” sharing things I feel daily and events I encounter.
I look forward to your continued support.
📌 I offer active listening sessions in person and via Zoom.
