Building a home is not a 'purchase,' but a 'life-defining project'
Hello. This is L-House, a construction company in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture.
Today, I would like you to fundamentally change your perspective on one thing. That is the fact that building a home is not a 'purchase', but something else entirely.
When we buy cars or home appliances, we compare performance and price, check the actual product, and sign a contract saying, 'I'll take this.' This is the act of 'buying a finished product,' or in other words, a 'purchase.'
However, a custom-built home is completely different.
What you are signing a contract for is not the 'house' in front of you. It is the 'promise to build a house from now on' and the process itself, which does not yet exist there.
This should be called a 'major life-defining project' rather than a 'purchase.' And you are the 'client' and 'leader' of that project.
The construction company is a group of experts and your 'partner' that you hire to lead that project to success.
Even if you, as the project leader, have a wonderful vision (the ideal home), if the partner who realizes it is incompetent or dishonest, there is no way that project can succeed.
Once the project begins, various difficulties await!
The wall of budget: 'If we go with these specifications, it will exceed the budget. What shall we do?'
The wall of design: 'With your desired floor plan, there remains some concern about seismic resistance. Shall we consider a different plan?'
Unexpected trouble: 'When we dug into the land, we found unexpectedly hard ground. Additional construction is required.'
When you hit walls like these, what happens if your partner is untrustworthy?
They might proceed with construction without fully explaining the risks, saying 'It's what the customer wanted,' or they might just hand you an invoice in a business-like manner, saying 'This is an additional cost.'
In other words, your partner (the construction company) must not be a mere 'contractor,' but a 'teammate' who treats your dream as their own, sweats with you, and racks their brains alongside you.
📘 I have released a 'Complete Guide to Building a Home in Nagano Prefecture,' which includes the content of this article, as an e-book.
Even though it is a book about building a home, it contains no catalogs or floor plan collections. All it has is the 'honest truth' from a man who has seen over 1,000 construction sites. It is such a thrilling and honest book that it makes you wonder if a construction company president should be revealing this much about the industry's inner workings.
※Today's topic is introduced in Chapter 2.
Thank you for reading until the end. If you liked it, I would be happy if you could press the 'Like' button♪
